Sounds Like
A swirling mix of Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Funk that fuses to create a vibrant, danceable blend of boundless grooves.
Southside Funk is a collection of musicians from Richmond, Virginia that blend together to create a monstrous musical vibe. The Southside jazz experiment has had many sounds and faces over time, but this new incarnation is by far the most prolific since the group's formation. This batch of instrumentalists creates a powerful, big band funk sound that has been too little heard since the 1970's. Although Southside Funk may appear to be a throwback, this is not entirely the case. The band uses their experience from years of listening, training and playing to incorporate a modern approach to what might otherwise be thought of as a post-modern genre. The merging of different musical persuasions such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, R&B, Rock, Reggae and Afro-Cuban rhythms creates a unique, eclectic style that Southside Funk delivers intensely and enthusiastically.
