Music, like Chet's, on the knife edge. A jazz of yesterday and today, in which emotion and melody are not submerged by technical prowess and abstract compositional methods. Jazz, in a word.
Fabrice Alleman & Jean Warland "The Duet" IGL214 release october 2009
Jean Warland has had a full life in the turbulent history of jazz, from Kenny Clarke to Dizzy Gillespie, not forgetting F. Boland and so many others. A dialogue between a saxophone a double bass that is full of finesse, strength and precision – genuine duet in every meaning of the word.
Pascal Mohy "Automne 08" IGL209
Pascal Mohy sketches out moods, draws ideas, colours feelings. His music gives substance to the soul. He makes silence talk. He makes harmonies sing. Django d'Or 2007, a young, gifted and fascinating piano player.
Manou Gallo Lowlin release November 2009 in USA & CANADA; 2010 in Europa
Maria Palatine Spindrift release November 2009 The work of a musician in tune with the broad range of music in the world, this refreshing personal CD escapes any sort of classification. It is simply lively, sensitive and as clear as the title implies; a salty, tormented splash of a spindrift in light.
Abid Bahri "Au gré du Oud" IGL212 release November 2008 IGLOOMONDO is proud to present this project of Abid Bahri to you. His first solo CD shows him in good shape in his solo work on the ‘ud, as well as being very well attuned to his guest musicians. Together they produce an enchanting form of chamber music, successfully blending Arabic and Western styles...
Christian Merveille FC138 release January 2009 A new collection of counting rhymes for toddlers just released on Franc' Amour Label.
For 30 years already, the jazz label Igloo has been providing a platform for new talent in European jazz, notably Philip Catherine, Eric Legnini Steve Houben and Nathalie Loriers. For its 30th anniversary, the label is continuing to focus on new talent, despite a difficult environment for the music industry.
In 1978, jazz aficionados in Brussels decided to pool their resources to record some of the new music that was being produced. With no possibility of major releases, they set up their own label with a grant and organised distribution. The goal was not to recreate a giant corporation but to reflect the music of its time.
Early releases on Igloo include Chet Baker and guitarist Philip Catherine. But more than anything else, the label has provided a platform for young musicians from jazz and contemporary music. Over the years, it has had the privilege of releasing first albums from pianists Eric Legnini and Nathalie Loriers, the vibraphonist Pascal Schumacher and jazz "chanteuse" Melanie De Biasio. "This is the primary role of Igloo," explains company president Daniel Léon. "Providing a platform for future talent is what we do."
Although the Igloo label is best known for its jazz productions, it has preserved the more eclectic vocation of its origins under the « Igloo + » imprint, as well as remaining open to other horizons by supporting multi-cultural encounters. The label now also has a world music imprint, « Igloo Mondo » mostly reserved for meetings and exceptional collaborations between musicians. These include Pierre Van Dormael with the Senegalese kora player Soriba Kouyaté, Charles Loos and the Aissawas of Rabat, Anfass, Majid Bekkas and Mâäk Spirit with the Gnaoua Express from Tangier…
Igloo, a source of warmth in a cold sea, now has its balcony on the world.
