I really enjoy the arts (high- or lowbrow; I'm not a snob), writing, playing drums, bass and guitar. (I'm currently looking for a project in the vein of AOR, Rock, Punk, Blues or Metal...but open to other styles, if you're interested.) I'm a freelance writer. You can read some of my work in Performer Magazine, where I'm a monthly featured contributor. More recently, I've been hijacked onto the staff of hot new blog site Ration Reality (http://rationreality.com), where I get to show a little of my dark side. In the last few months, I've been doing some technical work (Assistant Director/Production Assistant/Assistant Audio Tech) on some independent films here in the Carolinas. Hopefully, I will be doing some sketch-based comedy with some very talented individuals in the near future, but this remains very tentative as of now. I also get to do a few other ..media things.. here and there, which keep me busy and sometimes give me "behind the scenes" stories to tell my grandpets about!
I "Run With a Hatchet".
Spending precious time with family and friends is very important to me. I enjoy animals, particularly our 3 pets. Hiking around the woods and lake behind our home is great, especially when our dear dog is in tow. I enjoy watching hockey (Toronto Maple Leafs are my team.) and watching/playing tennis (although no one else in my neighborhood plays). I also have an unexplainable love of Volkswagen Vanagons/Caravelles/Type IIIs and Tristar/Transporter trucks, as well as some obscure European car brands. Only recently, I've gotten the courage to admit that I'm...an Anime fan and I'm all about Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist and WOLF'S RAIN(!), among others. Don't worry about me, though. I can quit whenever I want to.
Politics, society, cultural anthropology, music, cinema, philosophy, spirituality, physics, marketing, German stuff (...aber mein Deutsch ist nicht sehr gut) and history are fun and interesting conversation topics for me, although my knowledge varies from one to another. My New Band, Kadaver:

Movies
I've been so burnt out on mainstream U. S. releases of which I can discern the ending within 15 minutes. I've taken a liking to foreign and indie films lately. (Not that I'm so naive that as to think they don't follow their own formulae; I just haven't learned to recognize them yet.
Some favorites:
Anatomy
Big Fish
Black Cadillac
Bon Cop/Bad Cop(Canuck film is the first "bilingual movie"--very Canadian, eh?)
Brick
Das Experiment
Dead Meat (nifty li'l Irish horror job)
Dog Soldiers
The Emperor's Club
The Filth and the Fury
Ginger Snaps(quite original and filled with familiar sights from my days in Toronto)
The Howling (Still scary 25 years later!) />Mad Max (Ud Mel Gibson, b'vakasha!)
Night Shift(Could there be anything funnier than running a prostitution ring out of the NYC morgue? Exactly!)
Paper Clips
Pootie Tang (I apologize for NOTHING!)
Run, Lola, Run/Lola Rennt Run, Ronnie, Run (Surprisingly, not the sequel to the above-mentioned film--not even auf Deutsch.)<
Seriously Hilarious: Kids With Beards(Insane sketch comedy done by cool homo sapienses)
Seriously Hilarious: The Great Library Heist (short film)
subUrbia<
Strangeland
Super Troopers
Versus
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
Wet, Hot American Summer
Television
I don't watch much televisions anymore, I just turn it on a news channel and listen while I write/surf/clean the house. Sometimes, I luck into something good on the Discovery networks, VH-1 Classic, Fuse, MTV 2, Link TV, IFC or BBC America. I try to make a point to watch The Toronto Maple Leafs play (when televised), Wimbledon and The U. S. Open. I've recently become hooked on watching the side-splitting British sketch comedy show That Mitchell and Webb Look. Those two geezuhs are comic geniuses.
Back in the day (college), I used to dig The Angry Beavers and Eek! the Cat, 'cause I was gangsta' like that.
Books
"Beer For Dummies", "Shut Up and Get in the Van" by H. Rollins, "Native American Testimony: A Chronicle of Indian-White Relations from Prophecy to Present" by Peter Nabokov, "IBM and The Holocaust" by Edwin Black (That one left me very troubled and, later, very angry.), and The Bible. I enjoy fiction, but I usually only have a few moments at a time to read and nonfiction is easier for me to read that way. From my youth, I remember Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales", "Beowulf" and various King/Bachman works being very good reads. Lately, I've been reading the first few books in the Warriors series by Erin Hunter--highly recommended.
Heroes

About me: Welcome to the official MySpace page of Matt M., successful musician, photographer, writer and journalist--but not so successful that he can quit his day job. From his home base, Casa de White Trash, in the mean suburbs of Winston-Salem, NC, Matt oversees his media empire ...and then goes to his soul-destroying 9-to-whenever job and punches clock for The Man. When he's not occupied with such things, he's enjoying time with family and friends, finding new experiences and wondering what kind of voyeur would be interested in reading about his life.
"We are not going to be able to do anything forever, but we can do everything right now!" -Andrew W.K.
Soylent Ape loves his B. C. Rich Guitars and Basses (but not in that kind of way, Sicko).
Soylent Ape has a fever and the only cure is more Crate Guitar and Bass Amplifiers!
Soylent Ape is getting back to his roots with Ludwig Drums!
Soylent Ape plays Sabian cymbals, because Canucks can spin brass better than anyone!
