The spacebar is what you push on your computer to start and stop. A space bar is also where the aliens congregate to drink. It is also the name of Steve Deutsch’s recorded music label. The goal of SPACEBAR Recordings is to release a variety of music while it is still fresh.
Steve has been working on records professionally for 35 years: as a sideman on records by Rocky Burnette, Milli Vanilli, to an engineer/programmer for producers like
Don Was (Ofra Haza, Iggy Pop, Rolling Stones and Elton John), Ron Fair (Sting, Mya,
Lisa Loeb), Phil Ramone (Chicago, Ray Charles, Rod Stewart) and Van Dyke Parks (Orange Crate Art,, Live at the Ash Grove and Tokyo Rose).
As the music scene is ever-changing, SPACEBAR Recordings is finding ways to connect innovative musicians to hungry listeners. Our artists are prolific- their work should be introduced and enjoyed a little at a time, but often.

PAINTED STRANGER Take The Dark Away
Release Date: 02/19/08
SBR 103
Take The Dark Away is the second Painted Stranger full-length release from singer/songwriter, composer and multi-media artist Donald Rubinstein. With sixteen releases behind him ranging from rock, to folk, to jazz and experimental, Rubinstein teams up with collaborator and engineer Steve Deutsch to create what the L.A. Times has called “beautiful tunes, devoid of transitory trendiness,” and has been praised as “high art” by Mojo Magazine.
Markedly different from his other duo effort with Bill Frisell (Painted Stranger Time Again, Rhomus Records), this time Rubinstein’s rough, emotive voice combines with the distinctive, electronic production and arrangement of Deutsch, and the creative, sonic textures of mixer Tchad Blake (Tom Waits, Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon).
GRAHAM LINDSEY Hell Under The Skullbones
Release Date: 08/15/06
SBR 101
Americana songwriter Graham Lindsey’s sophomore effort Hell Under The Skullbones, follow up to his 2003 critically acclaimed debut Famous Anonymous Wilderness (Catamount Records), immediately earned the 1 spot on the Euro Americana Chart overseas, and celebrated a string of similar successes in the U.S. since its worldwide release in 2006 (U.S. release on Spacebar Recordings).
The ten song “excellent mid-sized album (Heaven Magazine),” is “fiery folk-blues-twang, augmented by notable cameos from Van Dyke Parks, pedal steel whiz Greg Leisz and ex-Captain Beefheart guitarist Moris Tepper (Uncut Magazine).” Also featured are upright bassist Larry Taylor (Tom Waits) and Nick Vincent (Frank Black and the Catholics) among others. Miles Of Music has said “Hell Under The Skullbones solidifies his place as a premier songwriter in the rich, dark tradition of folk legends Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly. Tremendous songwriting and grasp of the folk tradition. Highly recommended.”
HARTE Self-Titled EP
Release Date: TBA
Harte began her singing and songwriting career like many, honing her talents in coffeeshop open mics at a young age and attracting interest and praise with her original sound in the San Diego community where she grew up. But her story takes a much different turn than most when at age sixteen she moved to Israel to study and inevitably shape her distinct and unique songwriting style into a fusion of hip-hop and acoustic-soul.
Bouncing between the U.S. and Israel has afforded Harte experiences and a perspective not many can claim. She has written and recorded in New York with hip-hop artists Killah Priest, Remedy, Hell Raza, and has appeared on several recordings with the Wutang Clan’s Killah Priest and the Macabbees Black Market album. During her stay in Israel, Harte recorded many songs with Israel’s most prominent and successful recording artists gaining her invaluable experience as well as local popularity with her singing and songwriting talents. Harte has since returned to the United States and completed her first self-titled EP with producer Steve Deutsch.

Four more little sonic gems for your August pleasure are now available on the site. Blitzen Trapper, Boulder Acoustic Society, Jay Brannan and The Wiyos. Yet another fine quartet even though we say so ourselves as picked them out.
Hello, after an unfortunate hiatus, the reasons for which are probably best not gone into here, we finally have some new music on the AUK MySpace site. For your listening pleasure this month we offer Nathan Oliver, Conrad Ford, the irrepressible Todd Snider and the delightful Beccy Owen. Don't forget too, for those of you within striking distance of Leicester, Electric Dustbowl 2 on 19 September.
SPAMED! Can you ever forgive me? If so, please vote for me!
I am in Round Two of The TRCoA Unsigned Artist Competition. Help me get to Round Three by clicking my face and voting for me!
If I’m in the top 4 I get to play a showcase for record executives and could win 100 free hours in the studio.
If I were selected, it would really help me rock some faces off, please take a second and vote.
Thanks!
