...think for yourself... in 1983 i was 13yrs old. me and my friend Rick S discovered a college radio station playing punk music (punk music was very hard to find then in stl.). i recorded "all lost in the supermarket" from the Clash off the radio...."i came in here for the special offer, guaranteed personality" that lyric changed my life forever. for the first time i felt a song it meant something to ME....and what it said to me was, the system (powers, principalities, culture, religion,parents,school,fashion,money,t.v.) was offering me a pre-planned life that could be manufactured, bought, sold and controlled. JOE STRUMMER of the CLASH said NO be YOURSELF don't buy their guaranteed fake personality...this is INDIVIDUALISM...a few years later my girlfriend had me read Anthem by Ayn Rand, a futuristic story about the meaning of life...INDIVIDUALISM. these experiences shook me and awakened me. left me wanting to scream something into the void...me and Rick S started something like a band(which was probably the first punk band from the now infamous Spanish Lake area) with the only other person in middle school that looked different than everyone else. that would be Kieth B. we screamed and ranted about everything we didn't like. in the fall of 1984, I don't recall how but someone put us in touch with a drummer that would be Larry M and together with Mark J we became Unjust Cause. U. C. developed into Duck Duck Goose(we stopped screaming learned how to play and tried to express something real). Among the themes were disillusionment, boredom, trying emotions, the drug culture, the search, college radio, being an artist, bewilderment with growing older, general confusion with everything, and the real human beings we loved and admired. DDG won critical acclaim from the likes of Flipside mag which wrote about DDG as "the next big college band" as well as local Jet Lag mag stating "maybe the best band from St. Louis since the Zanty Misfits". DDG recorded about 25 songs in two years including a 7" single worth mentioning called "the misfits" and played with many big punk acts all over the mid-west. then came MW LambsBread which still presses on...and then there's me. the songs being recorded as Joseph M are me, my diary, my story.
