No way, it's a cool hobby!! I'd be in it myself, except I really can't justify the expense (and I've seen the prices on eBay...completely out of my league). I'm content to occationally browse online, and some people put youtube videos of their collections. It's totally cool if you're a girl...but I'd say to guys, if you do this, don't tell anyone, haha! Wow, so you buy yours at specialty stores? Ouch for the wallet! That would be a good business, marking up stuff that comes out at like $7.
99 to 1000%! I saw from your pictures that some of your Mint In Box (I picked up the terminolgy from looking at eBay) still have the original (much lower) price tags :))

I remember when McDonalds were giving Beanie Babies with the Kid's Meals.
People were buying the meals just for the toys and then throwing out the food!!!!!!!
  • Mar 6 2009 6:13 AM

That's a really neat hobby, especially for a girl! I'm guessing most of the ppl who collect toys are men in their mid 30s and up. But I'm thinking you probably just really like the character. Which is cool that you can let your hair down like that. Probably a kiss of death for a guy if he admitted he collects toys.
    Ughh double standard!

Ive been out of school until recently and in that whole time I havent found a stable job. (ps dont mind my grammatical errors...lol)

I'm doing fine, taking a class on medical terminology and looking into PA programs.
And you, what have you been up to Jess?

I'm taking intro Astronomy now, just to 'cleanse' myself after a disgusting year in Religious/Jewish studies department. I'm slowly discovering that most of the social sciences even humanties, despite the rhetoric, actually discourage critical thinking. Not so in the natural sciences. Those people live in pure reason and logic. The best social critics are not from our field, but from the natural sciences. People like Chomsky and Bertrand Russell are able to speak out and criticize. Many faculty in social sciences depts. are usually too indoctrinated or passive :( Hence our complains!! But since we're O'Connell's students, we're both going to help turn this problem around :)))))))))

I am very glad things are better know. Commuting saps most of your energy. Maybe using the bus is better because you can read or rest. You should get extra credit for having to sludge through the 405.
Major points to you, I could never make it alive out of a poetry class!

I didn't like the snobbery in Engl. classes. Too much name dropping. If some kid walks into the class w/o any literary experience, he's likely going to feel out of his depth and never come back. And they always wanted 'your take' on the pieces. But as a broccoli brained 19 y.o., I didn't know how to analyze. And they didn't teach it. Much, much later on I learned critical aesthetics (not in Engl. dept.), so maybe if I can find a time machine somewhere I can go back and do their work better. But it was their fault for not teaching us students proper analytical methods and making courses self contained. Few of those authors they assign went to college anyways... Hope you liked your profs!

I'm confused. Is it cancelled? Cause if so, then I probably won't go. The website says it's March 13-15, and says Stan Lee is there but it doesn't really say anything more than that. I'd like to go. It was nice last year. Not a ton of people.
  • Mar 4 2009 8:40 AM

ahh, I found it. It's been "postponed" due to the bad economy. Those dicks. I am still planning on going to the San Diego Comic Con this year though, although it may be the last year it's there.

Congratulations!!!!!! UCLA has the most beautiful physical campus I've ever gone to! English is so hard! I was an Engl. maj. once and I never scored an A! Godness! You must be good!!! One of my favorites is Nabokov (from my shallow well of lit. authors I'm familiar with). I used to imitate his style in my hist. papers until I was told to knock it off (shorter sentences!). haha. It's a delight to read him. "Lolita" is astonishing. I hate Humbert H. but Nabokov makes it worthwhile. If you're free tmrw., Naomi Klein is speaking at csun, at 2pm. I'm sure ur fam. w/her but if not check her vid. in my profile. 2pm, Google 'Naomi Klein' 'csun' for details. Hope you can come.
