BJ Harris's Interests
General
Non-Fiction Reading, Music, Film, the Arts, Tennis, Fishing, International Travel, Dreaming of Ways for the Rich to meet the Poor, Dating my Wife...and no, not in that order.
Music
All music. I love soundtracks and original movie scores, and have spent way too much money on them. I listen to mainly rock/alternative for ambient noise, unless I'm trying to be inspired or creative, then I adjust my listening accordingly. I usually don't like entire albums. Bands and artists usually only put out a few really good songs. Ultimately, I'll listen to anything that's good. Good art inspires me, even if it's not my favorite style.
Movies
Anything of epic proportion. I.e. Gladiator, Braveheart, The Passion... And I'm always up for a good action film or a well written comedy. I hate obnoxious comedies that require no more casting than, "Hey, are you willing to act stupid in front of a camera for cheap laughs? Awesome. You're hired!" Way too many of those being made...
Television
I don't own a television. We sold it almost 1 year ago, and it has dramaticlly altered the trajectory of my life. (But I do download The Office from iTunes...)
Books
Wow. I don't even know where to begin. Let's just say I find any non-fiction reading one of the best investments of my time, with the Bible at the top of the list. A mentor of mine used to say, "You'll be the same person a year from now with the exception of the books you read, and the people you hang out with." He was right...
Heroes
Anyone willing to seek out truth in a world of deception, and stand up for that truth regardless of how it affects the way they are treated or accepted.
People who are barbaric in their faith, and refuse to settle for safety, comfort, convenience, or mediocrity.
Who am I? I used to think that I had that all figured out, but now I find myself learning more about who I am and who I'm to be each and every day.
A lot of people know me as the "magic guy". I make my living as a professional magician, serving mainly churches, colleges, and concert promoters. For more info on what I do, visit my site: www.BJHarris.com
If you look further, you might find that I love so much more then just being on stage. I love reading a good book, taking walks with my wife and our fat dog, relaxing with friends and having meaningful converstions, playing Monopoly (very competitively), dominating at Clue, and losing miserably to my wife at Trivial Pursuit ("Junior Edition").
I love laying in the Hawaiian sun listening to my iPod, and building sand castles on the beach. I love eating fresh watermelon, pineapple, cantelope, and kiwi, especially in the mornings as soon as I wake up.
I love to travel. I love to experience other cultures. And I love to attempt to speak their languages. I love old buildings with lots of character, and learning the history that lies behind their walls. I love cool hotels with jacuzzi tubs, amazing matresses, and over-stuffed down pillows.
I love buying old houses and giving them new life. I love taking something that's broken and learning how to fix it. I love things that are a challenge. I love to work under pressure.
I love Apple computers because of their simplicity. I love great art, especially music, photography, film, painting, dance, and obviously illusion.
I love great food like fried chicken salad with ranch dressing, fettucini alfredo with garlic breadsticks, filet and new york strips cooked perfectly medium, a well grilled or roasted hot dog with chili and coleslaw on top, incredibly rich cheesecake (vanilla), and vanilla bean ice cream, macaroni with extra cheese, crawfish etouffee with a little cajun spice, Brazillian beans and rice, fresh steamed veggies like broccoli and grean beans and garlic mashed potatoes.
More than anything else, I adore my wife. I love the way she looks at me when I do something special. I love the way she supports me when I'm under a lot of pressure. (Pretty much always.) I love that she always stands by my side through the good times and the difficult. I love the way she smiles. I love the way she dreams. And I love the ways she wants to change the world fill it hope.
And I love world peace.
Who I'd like to meet: People who are making a positive difference in the world by living selflessly and loving deeply.
