In April 2008 Spare Parts Puppet Theatre was the host the very exciting and huge 20th UNIMA World Puppetry Festival and Congress. It was the first time the event has been held in the Southern Hemisphere and only the third time out of Europe.
Spare Parts Puppet Theatre (SPPT) was started in 1981 in Fremantle, Western Australia. SPPT is Western Australia's only specialist puppet theatre company.
SPPT makes two to three new puppet shows a year. Have a look at our pictures to see some of our puppets! We create shows that both young people and not so young people find fun and entertaining
Every year we have three production seasons - April, July and October - in our own theatre in Fremantle; we also tour our shows to regional areas of Western Australia and national touring. In 2008 we tour our adaptation of Shaun Tan's The Arrival all around Australia. We also tour around Perth and have regular puppet performing and making workshops.
Over a year, SPPT performs to an audience of almost 50,000 people throughout Australia.
We believe our greatest success is our new puppet shows. In recent years we have won quite a few awards for our shows... H2O - our swimming pool show, Spellbound, The Arrival.. and others..
