Following the much awaited merging of its members, Spare The Rod quickly became a favorite amongst the masses. Every cool cat and mouse in the country possessed a copy of their prolific debut EP 'Take Six of the Best', which was incredibly conceived, written, recorded and produced in a week. In an extravagantly furnished underground recording studio in the depths of the Welsh hills, the band put together one of the most exalted and celebrated EP's of the century. 'Take Six of the Best' carries the listener through a journey of exhilaration and ejaculation; side effects include hallucinations and loss of bowel control. When the album finally dropped from the top 10, after having spent 1,480 agonizing weeks in the charts, the album was inevitably milked to fuck. Rehabilitation camps were quickly formed all over the country to cope with the mass depression of STR's millions of fans, who, realising that their musical idol's were never going to write the much awaited album and were simply going to re-hash tired B-sides of their EP and desperately squeeze every last penny out of their once original and cutting-edge art, caused what was to become knon 'The Second Great Depression'.
Toward the end of the group's fortnight long career, sex, drugs and Nu Jazz music drove a peg between its members. STR suffered a horrifying death, subjecting its members to a 'cold-chicken' withdrawal, a term created by journalists to describe the band's demise as 'cold-turkey' seemed insufficient to describe the level of their suffering.
Ned fell destitute, now a 'post-operative' he walks the streets of LA, reciting an unrecognized mantra: "saki saki five dallah - i ghive yo good tahm o yo monay bak!". Gareth currently drives a big rig named Percy an average of 3,200 miles a week! (....She is currently on a diet, but says weight watchers is shit). He smokes 42 a day, has athlete's foot all over his body and swears at children. Mathew got a first in his degree at Dartmouth, he also became the most powerful union man in his block and came first in a 'cell songs' contest. Despite this the courts of justice said he could shove his parole up his arse. Mathew (or Mickey Mouse the Motherfucker as he likes to be called) was sentenced to life for torturing a parking warden with his drum sticks.
Such was the tragic demise of Spare The Rod, a name that will no doubt live on in infamy.

4) What music inspires you and who are your main influences?
Spider: Obvious ones are Hendrix, Nirvana and The Beatles.
All modern music plays a part in our ability to write new material. I am fascinated by notions and emotions being given a sound/expression.
You DONT have to always listen to a fav song by your fav band to come up with the goods...Forget Matt Bellamy from Muse's feelings and modes of expression. What the fuck are YOU really feeling inside?

To answer speculation made by various members of the press world-wide: the second singer on Lobotomy is not me having my balls sqeezed by Gareth - Joni Hurst did the honours (of singing, not squeezing).
We realise that the sound and performance quality of our first songs is a bit shakey, and I'd like to qualify a couple of things about our EP, if anyone with a critical ear should listen! The entire EP was put together in what was (cumutively) one week. Two of the songs (Lobotomy and Falling Grey) were written from scratch, and the whole lot was recorded and produced in what was left of that time. What's more is that we had to do all of the recordings live (because we didn't have the time to do seperate recordings) through shitty equipment: only two mics for the drums, the guitar through a PA (Gareth's Marshal head was broken) and the bass through a crappy little amp. We hope to eventually re-record all of the songs properly, but for now this is all we have to offer! Ned
