Sometime in the early 2000's, two dedicated and ultra-talented musicians/friends/coworkers embarked on a journey with no end. Neal Spaulding ($2 Pistols) and Matt Oberst (Sorry About Dresden) met regularly in a moderately climate controlled garage studio and wrote songs together. These were not ordinary songs. You see, these two studio prodigies were tired of laying down tracks on bass, drum, and guitar and overdubbing until it pissed God off. They went about writing songs in ways they hadn't tried before, with instruments they didn't play as often. Sparklepants was born.
It didn't take long for James Hepler (Sorry About Dresden, En Garde, Chambercorps, The Wusses) to fall in love with the music and the idea. Always itching to achieve total mediocrity with new and interesting instruments and voices, Hepler began joining in on the recording sessions. Total Harmony was achieved with the late addition of Scott McCall ($2 Pistols) who lent his unrivaled guitar skills to the project.
Sadly, it wasn't meant to be. Once again, God became angry with the lack of virgin sacrifices he was receiving in the name of Sparklepants. He sent a Mighty Lightning Bolt into the computer housing the Sparklepants tracks, and the computer became as sackcloth while Sparklepants became as blood. All that was left were the Holy Rough Mixes that the members faithfully held onto until this day.
So enjoy the fruits of Sparklepants' collective loins, and listen in rememberence of them.
