ARTIST NAME: Sparta Philharmonic

CATEGORY: Experimental/ Indie/ Punk Rock

DESCRIPTION:

Cataclysmic eruptions of pure aural torture. Endorsed by both Satan and Thurston Moore, Sparta Philharmonic create music that is very popular among intellectual types who may pay lip service to Wagner or Coltrane, but do not actually listen to music.

PERSONNEL:

Alexander Bortnichak -Drums, Percussion & Effects

Gregory Bortnichak -Guitar, Cello & Vocals

ORIGIN: Formed -1998, Sparta, NJ

Current -Philadelphia, PA

HIGHLIGHTS:

Since the late 90's, Sparta Philharmonic has been earning a reputation for their ferocious live performances and diehard DIY aesthetic. They have shared the stage with many noteworthy acts, including: Hella, The Deathset, Matt and Kim, Japanther, Pilot To Gunner, The Dirty Projectors, and Man Man. They have self-released one EP and one full-length record, booked their own tours, arranged their own online and physical distribution, and have secured a dedicated regional following in the process.

In 2007, they appeared on the Boston cable television program "Dead Air Live" for a feature-length performance which went on to earn a nomination for "Best Musical/ Performance Show" of 2007. Recently, Sparta Philharmonic has garnered praise for their work in the modern dance community, particularly for their collaborations with acclaimed New York-based choreographer/ performance artist/ activist Mathew Heggem and internationally renowned choreographer Adrienne Clancy of ClancyWorks dance company.

Greg, my friend..."Maybe It's Best" is so damn good. I love the riffs and those dual, panned vocals. Sounds ferocious and, yet, relaxed in a way. I cannot wait to hear/get the new LP.

Safe travels on the tour, man (you, too, Alex!). Let's do something when you get back.
