Based in Greenville, NC The Spazz started off as a house/venue where we held tri-monthly shows. Lasting for nearly 5 years we branched that out to an actual store-front space. Keeping our name, as well as the ethics from our earliest incarnation, we continued to remain an all-ages space created by the people for the people!
As a straight-up D.I.Y. community-reliant venture, our goal was not for personal profit, but to have a spot for touring and local musicians to showcase their goods, while exhibiting work from local artisans. Doing this for awhile we knew the ropes. Gas cash (on occasion a minimal cash guarantee), food (often), beer/bevs(sometimes), and a place to crash were offered to all artists invited to perform. Being a college town (East Carolina University), even on an off night for shows we, most often than not, saw a good amount of folks out to support the acts.
The original Spazz got praise amongst touring bands for it's intimacy with the audience and the over-all energy it allowed and we applied that to that space. Working with bands of all styles and genres we prided ourselves on our eclecticism. The Spazz was created solely out of love for live music and the necessity to have an outlet for local and touring bands being consistently overlooked by the few or non-existant venues in town.
Per usual the majority of door-take (ie. donations) went to the acts performing that night. You'd be very hard pressed to find an act we've hosted that didn't have an enjoyable experience.
IN OUR FRIENDS CATEGORIES I'VE LISTED SOME LOCAL SEMI-LOCAL BANDS THAT PLAY THE AREA REGULARLY. IF ANY OF THEM WORK WITH YOUR SOUND CONTACT THEM AND SEE IF THEY'D BE INTERESTED IN PLAYING WITH YOU.

About me: WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY BOOKING ANY NEW SHOWS DUE TO US NOT HAVING AN ACTUAL VENUE IN THE GREENVILLE, NC AREA. A HOUSE SHOW HERE AND THERE BUT NOTHING SUBSTANTIAL. I CURRENTLY LIVE IN THE PHILADELPHIA AREA AND WILL ON OCCASION SET UP A SHOW @ THE SPAZZ HAUS OR ANOTHER VENUE IN GREENVILLE. HOWEVER, UNTIL TRUSTWORTHY & RELIABLE FOLKS ARE THERE TO RUN SHOWS I'M SHYING AWAY FROM SETTING ANYTHING FOR TOURING BANDS .
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CALL:
JEFF @ 252-531-6783
We WANTED TO BE a completely donation-based community space that was host to both conventional and performance art.
Our gallery and performance space was located in the historical downtown section of Greenville and we loved to feature paintings, sculptures, photographs, music, and non-conventional performance art on a regular basis. Right now the dream is on hold because we did not set out to be a club but Greenville's narrow idea of a performance space does not allow us to exist in a legal sense. However, stay updated by adding this profile as a friend and we'll let you know any significant events happening around town.
THANKS TO THE HUNDREDS OF ACTS THAT CAME THROUGH OUR MANY INCARNATIONS OF THE SPAZZATORIUM AND TO ALL OF THE SUPPORT FROM THE FOLKS OVER THE YEARS. IT WAS A HELLUVA RIDE! SOMEWAY, SOMEHOW, SOMEDAY WE WILL BE BACK. UNTIL THEN MAKE THINGS HAPPEN AND DO-IT-TOGETHER. ANY ADVICE QUESTIONS HIT UP THAT NUMBER ABOVE.
We just wanted everyone to know that we have revamped our MySpace page & given it a facelift!!!
Stay tuned to our bulletins & blogs for information regarding new releases, special events, and exclusive coupons only available to our MySpace friends!!!
ECMV is still Greenville's only INDEPENDENT record store!!! And, we are proudly your headquarters for the best in our areas local music and we still have the largest selection in new & used cd's, dvd's, vinyl, & blu-ray!!!
i know a few people that are trying to play spazz in the fall i dont know how your booking process is but i gave them your info on here and gave them your number jeff. ones a funk/psyc band from boone. ones an indie rock band from raleigh. and ones a punk hardcore band from wilmington. im sure they'll be contacting you sometime soon. if your interested. take care.
Thank you for everything you do Jeff! We love the Spazz and everything it represents. Such a great show, and such a good talk last night. We fucking love you and Laura, and everybody else that keeps this place alive!!
