ENGLISH BIO:
Formed in 1994 out of their great passion for hip hop and jazz, they are undoubtedly one of the longest running groups on the Italian scene, collecting records and playing together since their schooldays. Over the years the group have performed at times as a quartet and at times with a more extended line up, with three horns, percussion and Rhodes/Hammond in the most diverse live situations - from classy restaurants, warehouse gigs, private parties, mod festivals and hip hop parties to the big stages of their many performances at the Venice Carnival. The band play instrumentals with a decidedly dirty sound, raw BOOGALOO! Jazz … or sentimental funk.
The combo marry a powerful Hammond organ with a jazzy vibe and a large dose of ever-present background attitude-funk. Hailing from the city of Padua, the group name Lou Donaldson, “Brother” Jack Mc Duff, Groove Holmes, Marcos Valle, Rusty Bryant and Lonnie Smith among their thousands of influences. The set includes some typically 60s classic jazz-funk tracks from Blue Note and Prestige records, the original Mod dance floors and 70s Brazilian funk.
One of the things they love most is when they get that old school vibe, where they provide the backing for MCs to freestyle, or act as a live mix tape for breaker sessions (a big shout out to Zhanna, Stand, Cesare and all the EAD crew!). If any MCs are in the house at one of their gigs, they’re still welcome to step up at the end of the night for a jam.
All in all, it’s a sound which puts the groove first, the drive…both the foundations and the goal, the true perspective Speakeasy use to listen to and play their music.

...attivi dal 94 con una grande passione per hip hop e jazz, è sicuramente uno dei gruppi più longevi nel loro genere in Italia. I ragazzi suonano insieme e collezionano dischi, come si suol dire "fin dai tempi del Liceo.......". Negli anni è passato a periodi alterni dal quartetto a formazioni più numerose, con tre fiati, percussioni e rhodes/hammond, adattandosi alle più svariate situazioni live, dal ristorante di lusso ai centri sociali, dalle feste private ai grandi palchi delle varie edizioni del Carnevale di Venezia, dai festival Mods ai partyes hip hop. La band è strumentale, tesa ad un suono decisamente sporco: BOOGALOO! Jazz allo stato grezzo... forse funk sentimentale.
Il combo mette un poderoso hamond su una vibra jazzy, con una buona dose di ignoranza funk sempre ben presente in background. Nato e cresciuto a padova il gruppo si ispira a Lou Donaldson, "Brother" Jack Mc Duff, Groove holmes, Marcos Valle, Rusty Bryant, Lonnie Smith e mille altri. Il set include alcuni classici pezzi jazzfunk tipicamente anni 60 sullo stile delle etichette Blue Note e Prestige, del dancefloor Mod più dritto, e del brasilian funk anni settanta.
Una delle cose che da piu gusto ai ragazzi è quando capitano quelle situazioni "alla vecchia" in cui fanno da base per freestyle di MCs o da live mixtape per sessions di breakers (un abbraccio a zhanna, Stand, Cesare e tutta l'EAD crew). Tuttora, se nei live degli Speakeasy sono presenti MCees fra il pubblico sono benvenuti per una jam a fine serata.
Insomma un sound che privilegia il groove, il drive, il "tiro"... contemporaneamente punto di partenza e obiettivo, autentico punto di vista attraverso cui gli Speakeasy ascoltano e suonano la loro musica.
