About SPEAKERS CORNER

A UK Hip Hop Open Mic Mecca & Movement for cultural growth. Speakers Corner facilitates a platform for emerging artist at a grass roots level within the art establishment/industries & local community.

Speakers Corner in December 2007 celebrated 3 years of free entry free speech cultural growth with its open mic burial. Over 200 world class MCs were present (the majority of them established artist), audio will be available online shortly. We thank everyone who has taken part in our monthly open mic @ the Jamm in Brixton from Feb3rd2005 to Dec6th2007, a lot of whom have supported us and our previous sound system events from many years before at various events legal & illegal in and around London.

We continue now with our ideals to promote & elevate the Spoken Word, Lyrical artform & its message. Throughout the course of 2008/9 we have been hosting the EOW MC Challenge @ The Rhythm Factory & The Jazz Cafe with the UK & International finals held at The Coronet Theatre in Elephant/Castle & The world finals held back @ Jamm. We continue to run & support worth while community projects / campaigns.

Events continue to run under the name 'The Peoples Army' in and around London, watch out for all events using this name.. This is Speakers Corner foundation members keeping it roots & conscious, Great event for lyricist/Vocalist/Open Mic..

Events also run under the name '12Tone' are under direction of the infamous Speakers Corner Quartet, at these events the live musician elements of Speakers Corner are taken to higher heights.

We are gradually getting round to compiling all our archived footage & audio online. As well as setting out plans for a regular DVD magazine & Mix-tape Series. Any help on these matters are welcome.

The return of Speakers Corner [with the support of "End Of The Weak", "The Peoples Army', '12Tone' & 'Louisden Beat Cypha'] as the main event will take some time, first we are to look into funding (any help with this would be appreciated), then also venue/enviroment etc.. The important issue to remember is that we WILL be back, hopefully sooner than later. We expect a full return in August 09.

In the meantime please support the EOW UK events we are hosting, this is a global platform for UK artist. We our also currently running a small in-store Open Mic in the heart of Brixton @ HQ Frontline Hip Hop Supplies every second Friday between 6.30-9pm.. Free for everyone.

Jun 1 2009 11:37 PM FOLLOW DIS STORY FAMILY My dad disowned my daughter (his 1st grandaughter) before she was even born for her skin tone (quartercast)..... ...i responded with agressive text messages,out of hurt,(which i was sent 2 prison for 3.5wks for!) i also responded with controversial hiphop rhymes & conscious urban poetry (on my blogs)..... ....my dad has put in a court case against me 4 threats 2 kill & harassment...when all ive done is spoke out against da evils of dat nazi!! ....i could now be facing anywhere between 18 mths and 5 years..,as he is claiming he feels threatened by my rhymes,poems & its no holds barred contents & is trying his hardest 2 have dis page closed down!! .....now is dat justice???? The worst bit about it is he allowed my sister 2 have an italian boyfriend (who's skintone was darker than my daughters) and i even found endless pics of NAKED BLACK WOMEN ON HIS P.C!!! CHARM	Jun 30 2008 8:03 PM The aim is to show support for a group of friends that are being prosecuted for graffiti and to raise awareness of the injustice of imprisoning people that paint graffiti. In a society where 'street/urban art' is exhibited on the walls of The Tate Modern, London and sold in auction halls around the world the messages are mixed. They face being imprisoned for a long period of time and at the same time violent criminals have the possibility of fines and community service.
