Mission Statement
At SPEAK Political we concur with the words of Alice Walker who said: The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men. We also believe that in a democracy the ultimate power, and therefore the ultimate force for change, is the ballot box. History has proven this time and again. To this end, SPEAK Political will campaign to end the suffering, abuse and exploitation of all animals using the framework of the British electoral system.
If the Labour government ever gets round to banning fox hunting, I might as well leave this country and spend the rest of my life skiing. Prince Charles, 2002
The main proponents of hunting are a rich elite who believe it’s their ‘right’ to hunt on land their ancestors stole from the rest of us centuries ago. They also like the fact that hunting reinforces the class system, with them at the pinnacle.
The practice of vivisection of living animals stands condemned by its very inhumanity. The fact that intellectual and educated men are engaged in the pursuit is no evidence of its rightfulness and value. Intellectual and educated men have been guilty of the greatest crimes in history. Dr. Walter Hadwen
The president of a German company prominent in the cat fur trade is quoted as saying: ‘When cat fur is dyed it is not easily distinguished from other furs’. Around 24 cats are required to make a fur coat, and 10 to 12 dogs. This number is obviously higher if kittens and puppies are used.
We’re sheltered from the truth, and in reality most people don’t want to be confronted with it, then they would have to deal with the knowledge. Ignorance is bliss so they say. The meat industry, like all big businesses have developed insidious marketing and PR schemes to take us in from an early age. For the first time in British electoral history, SPEAK Political will help give people back their voice, will allow them to SPEAK up and SPEAK out and to make a real difference. That is what democracy is about and should be about, what we have at the moment is nothing more than a charade.

Why a vote for SPEAK Political is NOT a wasted vote.
Since we launched SPEAK Political it has become apparent that some people just don’t understand the concept behind it. In this short essay I hope to explain to you the ideology of SPEAK Political, and why a vote for us is NOT a wasted vote.
It is a common misconception that to vote for any party other than Labour, Conservative or Liberal Democrat is somehow a ‘wasted’ vote. This fallacy is perpetuated by the big three as some kind of perceived wisdom in order to maintain the current political hegemony with them at the apex. This in turn has led to the current level of voter apathy. Whoever you vote for they promise the world and deliver nothing, so it follows that many people ask; why bother voting at all? << click here to read the full essay>>

WHAT WE STAND FOR IN MORE DETAIL
The animal experimenters are the cornerstone of the highly corrupt and manipulative pharmaceutical industry. These are a pseudo-scientific fraternity who earn vast amounts of money for their employers by performing unbelievably barbaric experiments which can be used to (falsely) substantiate claims that their drugs are safe for human use. Dr. James D. Gallagher, Director of Research of Lederle Laboratories in The Journal of the American Medical Association, March 14, 1964 stated: Animal studies are done for legal reasons and not for scientific reasons. The predictive value for such studies for man is meaningless, which means our research may be meaningless.
There is no British or European law which states that new drugs, chemicals or cosmetics must be tested on animals. However, animal testing ensures that vivisectors get the results they want in order to sell their dangerous chemicals to an unwary public. In numerous legal trials of drug companies who have caused fatalities and injuries, the most effective defence which has been used time and again is that ‘All of the usual and required testing had been done to establish the safety of the drug in question’. A standpoint which most legal authorities are not qualified to dispute. Indeed, the ‘experts’ upon whom they call for advice in such matters are invariably members of other drug companies or drug sponsored agencies and therefore the animal testing fraternity. They are in effect playing a game that only they know the rules to. The very idea that a test or operation done on an animal will show results which are directly translatable to humans is plainly ridiculous. As has been stated by some of the greatest and most influential physicians in medical history: the anatomy, physiology and psychology of animals is entirely different to our own in many ways, and this difference is further exaggerated in the case of animals bred for and/or housed in laboratories because the animals are highly stressed to begin with.
Due to campaigns by anti-fur groups the farming of animals 'solely or primarily for their fur' was banned in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland from 1st January 2003. Meanwhile, millions of animals continue to be killed around the world for their fur. The majority of these animals are mink, raised on fur factory farms.
An 18-month undercover investigation discovered that the trade in cat and dog fur is far bigger than was ever previously believed, the HSUS has revealed that more than 2 million of these domestic animals are abused and killed by the international fur trade each year. And this sick trade isn't just something that happens in far off lands, at least one company in Britain recently traded openly in the furs of these animals.
Infiltrating this industry, the HSUS and German investigative reporter Manfred Karremann filmed and photographed the whole sordid business from start to finish, exposing how the trade is inextricably linked to the rest of the fur industry. Cat and dog fur products were found by the HSUS in several countries across Europe as well as the USA, and according to the HSUS ‘fur auction house employees said that some of their customers come from the US, though most are from Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain’.
These animals end up as gloves, coats, hats or fur trim; their skins are used in the production of drums and other musical instruments. "And Mary J. Blige, she's got all these fur coats and hats and stuff. She's good; I like her." Bryan Ferry
"Let me say it openly: we are surrounded by an enterprise of degradation, cruelty, and killing which rivals anything the Third Reich was capable of, indeed dwarfs it, in that ours is an enterprise without end, self-regenerating, bringing rabbits, rats, poultry, livestock ceaselessly into the world for the purpose of killing them." J. M. Coetzee
My father was the person who first got me thinking about the morality of eating meat. Or should I say, something that happened to him did. Dad was a hard man. He was brought up during the war on the kind of council estate where you had to fight to survive. He was in the army. He was a small-time gangster, who did time. He was the sort of man you wouldn’t want to argue with in a pub believe me.
After he went straight Dad worked as a builder. On one job he was relaying a road outside the local abattoir. Two days into the job he quit. He never set foot inside the grounds of the slaughterhouse, but the smells emanating from it coupled with the cries of the animals reduced this hard man to jelly. He was particularly affected by the pigs. He noted that out of all the animals he saw being delivered to their deaths the pigs were the only ones who really seemed to know what was in store for them, and they had to literally dragged kicking and screaming off the trucks.
Despite, not really knowing what a vegetarian was, that’s exactly what he became. I remember Mum making him his favourite steak and chips shortly afterwards, and it going in the bin. Dad said the smell made him feel ‘sick to his stomach’. He always used to say that prison officers (or ‘screws’ as he used to call them) were the lowest of the low. After this incident he revised his opinion and raised them in rank slightly above slaughtermen. John Ellis
"Auschwitz begins wherever someone looks at a slaughterhouse and thinks: they're only animals." Theodor Adorno
"If the Labour government ever gets round to banning fox hunting, I might as well leave this country and spend the rest of my life skiing." Prince Charles, 2002
The main proponents of hunting are a rich elite who believe it’s their ‘right’ to hunt on land their ancestors stole from the rest of us centuries ago. They also like the fact that hunting reinforces the class system, with them at the pinnacle. Has any bill to pass through Parliament ever had a more tortured and protracted passage than the ‘Hunting Act’ of 2004? This was exacerbated by the fact that the legislation passed came with so many loopholes and exemptions that the people involved in this most odious of ‘sports’ could carry on almost exactly as before. The police to their eternal shame show virtually no will to uphold the law, but instead act as if their role is still to protect and facilitate the hunts as they did before.
One of the cornerstone’s of Western democracy is John Stuart Mill’s ‘harm principle’. Mill stated that we should be free to do anything that pleases us providing what we do does not cause harm or hurt to others. It should be noted that to Mill ‘others’ included animals. Indeed, he compared animals to children whom he said were in a similar moral position. They may both be weaker than us, but because they can suffer both fear and pain, we have a moral duty not to hurt them. He also recognised that any abuse of the weak diminishes our society and concluded that governments not only could, but should, act to stop this.

'Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as crazy, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.'

Autumn has always been loved. But lately, sadly, I've heard cries of "They've made me hate the fall!", due to the annual bloodbath of deer. To sooth your frazzled nerves, let me share with you [Nocturnal Meditation: a gift of peace] - music by Chopin (Nocturne in E-flat) and Massenet (Meditation, performed by Anne Sophie Mutter); photography by Anthony Marr. If you have already seen/heard it, be enchanted all over again, and pass it on.
Descending from the sublime to the ridiculous, a hunter addressed me as "Dear Rush Limbaugh of Animal Rights". Haha! No thanks. But if Limbaugh can do it on his medieval mindset, so can I on my futuristic one. This coming Friday, 3-4pm ET/12-1pm PT, on Animal Voices, I will just bare my soul, open my heart, and speak my mind. And you are invited to do likewise. Just call 1- 604- 684- 7561, and speak your mind.

Which of the following 3 alternatives would you wish for these fawns?
If you prefer the 3rd alternative, please join the Anti-Hunting-Alliance (AHA) currently being forged by Heal Our Planet Earth (HOPE - www.HOPE-CARE.org), which initially will seek to accomplish the following:
1. Support local campaigns against the culling and bow-hunting of deer in urban, suburban and park environments.
2. Integrate the local deer-battles into a national Deer War.
3. Launch massive internet and media campaigns on local and national levels.
4. Launch federal-level class-action legal challenges against the state-level Hunter Harassment laws for violating the freedom of speech and property rights of non-hunters and anti-hunters as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution (listen to the Jan Haagensen interview by Anthony Marr on Animal Voices in www.myspace.com/AnthonyMarr).
There will be a higher aim with the success of some or all of the above objectives: To terminate Recreational Hunting and Trophy Hunting, period.
Please contact Anthony Marr via MS messaging or email (Anthony-Marr@HOPE-CARE.org) and let's roll!

When I was in Africa a couple of decades ago, I camped for a stretch in the territory of a lion pride comprising 3 males, 10 females and 22 cubs.
The 3 pride-males, named Agamemnon, Achilles and Hector (AAH), were about 6 years of age and very much in their prime. Their 22 cubs were thriving under their protection - protection against predators,
and the coalition of four 4-year-old prideless bachelors, who had been loitering in the neighborhood.
Due to the superior fighting prowess of AAH, they had been kicking the butts of the Gang of Four (GOF), so far. If the GOF drove out or killed AAH, they would kill all their cubs so that the lionesses would have cubs bearing their genes. AAH would be able to repel GOF for another couple of years, which was a fairly stable long term scenario in lion terms. What was unforeseen was that a trophy hunter killed Achilles.
Now with only Agamemnon and Hector holding the fort, they were no match for the GOF. Valiantly, AH tried to defend their offspring, but it was a matter of fighting to the last cub before they both were killed. The 10 lionesses became the spoils of war. And so, a new leonine dynasty was born. But through it all, 25 lives were lost, all due to one single bullet fired by one egomaniacal trophy hunter. Shame on Safari Club International! And shame on you Mr. President, for support hunting.
Brenda Davis R.D., vegan dietitian and author of 5 best-selling books, will be Anthony Marr's guest on Animal Voices this Friday, August 21, 3-4pm ET/12-1pm PT - CFRO 102.7FM in Vancouver, online-live at www.coopradio.org globally. Veganism is at the core of the Animal Rights movement, but an improperly implemented vegan diet which causes health problems will discredit not only veganism, but the animal rights movement itself. Brenda Davis will discuss: - What is a healthy vegan diet? - What are the most common dietary blunders that vegans make? - Is a vegan diet safe for people of all ages? - Do vegans need to take supplements? - Are there any real health advantages to a vegan diet? In 2003-2004, Brenda Davis and her then 15 year old son Cory travelled with Anthony Marr in his first (of 6) Compassion for Animals Road Expedition (CARE-tour), which covered 41 states in 7 months. She has impressed Anthony as being the healthiest and best conditioned person he has ever met. Cory was raised on a vegan diet since birth, and is the picture of health himself. Anthony Marr's Animal Voices talkshow is online live (www.coopradio.org) and on the air (CFRO 102.7FM Vancouver) every Friday 3-4pm ET/12-1pm PT. Hotline call-in # 604-684-7561. It is archived and replayed at www.myspace.com/AnthonyMarr.
On Friday, Sept. 18, Anthony Marr will host the first ever online debate between two prominent animal rights philosophers/activists, who, though both vegans, hold diametrically opposed views on the strategies and tactics of the AR/vegan movement. One is Dr. Steve Best, professor of philosophy, U of TX @ El Paso the other is Gary Francione, professor of philosophy and law, Rutgers U, NJ This promises to be a SUPER HOT DEBATE between two intellectual heavy-weights. Miss at your own loss!

Just kidding!!! That's not me! This is me, safe and sound in Vancouver. I always wear protective gear when I ride, and so do my passengers. :D
Anyway, now that I've caught your attention, I just want you to know that this coming Friday's Animal Voices talkshow will feature I, me and myself. I've decided to do an hour program on my new article "What the USA must change to become a great nation" ( see www.HomoSapiensSaveYourEarth.blogspot.com). Someone out there has undertaken to sent it on to President Obama with the following recommendation:
"President Obama and every member of Congress should read this major masterpiece twice so that they can clearly understand and fully realize what *MUST CHANGE* before the USA will ever become a great nation. This publication is a monumental achievement that is compelling, riveting, gut wrenching, extremely powerful, and really shocking. All you have to do is read it!!"
Anthony Marr's Animal Voices talkshow is on every Friday 3-4pm ET/12-1pm-PT, online live (www.coopradio.org) and on the air (CFRO 102.7FM Vancouver). Hotline call-in # 604- 684- 7561. It is archived and replayable at www.myspace.com/AnthonyMarr
Kristal Parks (www.PachydermPower.org) will be Anthony Marr's guest on Animal Voices this coming Friday, Sept. 11. To say that Kristal loves elephants is an understatement. To say that she is in love with them is to trivialize the profound. Her fate and the elephants' seem inextricably intertwined. She lives and breathes for the elephants. The following video will give you a glimpse of Kristal Parks..
