An old adage warns if you don't know your history, you will be forever condemned to repeat it. Likewise, if you don't know your science fiction, and heed its warnings, you could condemn the Earth to future catastrophe." Kelly Steed

ATHENA The goddess of wisdom, war, art, industry and justice resides in your soul. You are not afraid to speak your mind, often viewed as outspoken, you move the beat of your own drummer. Others will find your opinions intense, however they will also see you as a fair, and knowledgeable, as you take the time to consider and weigh the options;rather than making impulsive decisions. You would do well as a judge, or a lobbyist, however you would also do well as an artisan in any arena, such as a painter, director, critic or curator.

I'm a typical Aries ignited with the passion of my element FIRE and tempered with the steel of my ruling planet MARS. All this means that I'm really goal oriented, so I approach life like I'm storming the Beaches at Normandy! I also tend to have a wicked sense of humor and love to play pranks on my husband! I also love to debate history and have been known to make people cry! I became a rebel in junior high and still carry that trait today!
I was educated in Catholic schools. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Michigan University in US History. I was a founding member of the Society for the Preservation of the Imagination (SPI) NMU's science fiction club and Vice President of the History Club my Freshman year. SPI's big event of the year was Mini Con in Bloomington, MN. In fact, SPI got its start because of a literature class, Mini Con, a blizzard and a van accident. Intrigued? Read the story here: http://home.att.net/~s.c.ninlil.c.b/sci.htm I also attended a Windy Con and a Creation Con held in Dearborn, MI while at NMU. Later with my husband Richard we attended the Motor City Comic Con in Novi, MI.
I grew-up involved in Civil War and later Revolutionary War Re-enacting. I married Corporal Richard Steed of the 10th VA Light Infantry in 1991. Unfortunately the unit broke up while I was away at college and broke my heart. Though we haven't re-enacted in a few years, it is something we're looking to get back into most probably the War of 1812 time period. Once re-enacting gets in your blood it never leaves!
My two great childhood loves were history and science fiction so it was natural to pursue a career as a Speculative Fiction author. I love proposing the question “What if?” and see where that takes me in a story. History and science fiction work well in tandem in this arena. I also love the idea of time travel and have on occasion wanted to cross that veil. Due to author branding I write my young adult speculative fiction under the name Kelly Roberts.
STASIS by Kelly Steed & Colleen Elliott
Stasis was published by PublishAmerica from 2001-06. We recovered our rights for personal reasons and plan to revise the novel and get it with a new publisher in the future.
Unfortunately, I suffer from that all to common artistic malady--depression so I have good days and bad days. Sometimes it takes me a while to get things done. It can be very frustrating!!
Current Project:
Camelot's Revenge by Kelly Steed
1998 Hyde Park, New York:
Clairvoyant history teacher Bridgett MacLachlan comes face to face with Palo Nanini, the grassy knoll assassin she’d seen in a psychic vision. This prompts her to investigate him further. Bridgett gathers leads via her scrying mirror then follows them up with research to obtain the hard evidence needed for a criminal courts’ jury to bring in a conviction.
Bridgett is spurred on in her inquiries by another vision, which foretells he’s going to kill again. Her hope is to reveal the victim’s identity and warn him before the Mafia’s most cunning assassin can strike. Unfortunately, visions don’t always reveal exactly what will take place. Often they are merely symbolic representations of future events that require interpretation to discover their true meaning. In her haste to save a life, Bridgett forgets this principal.
She confides in her friend and colleague Maria Garcia, who has a hard time believing in the validity of such esoteric practices. Concerned for Bridgett’s sanity, she speaks with Norbert Zatorski, the school psychology teacher and spurned would-be suitor of Bridgett’s. Norbert seething with unfulfilled desires exacts his revenge by exposing her suspicions to Nanini. Bridgett is murdered but by no means is she through seeking justice.
I also write nonfiction ghost stories based on my own experiences. My ghost stories have appeared in FATE Magazine and two Haunted Encounters anthologies put out by Atriad Press http://www.atriadpress.com/. Cover photos can be found in my Pics. My story, “As The Millennium Turned” about a visit from a recently deceased friend on the eve of the Millennium will appear in Spiritual Visitations an anthology edited by Heather Froeschl. For more on Spiritual Visitations: http://www.quilldipper.com/pages/spiritual.htm. Zumaya Publications has scheduled a 2008 release. http://www.zumayapublications.com/
I've started my own paranormal investigative group O.B.I.T. Ohio Battlefield Investigation Team we specialize in military hauntings but will look into others. http://www.myspace.com/obitghosthunters Like Jay and Grant of TAPS, I want to prove that something exists beyond death through scientific means to confirm that the experiences I've had are not just some flight of fantasy or as Scrooge put it, "brought on by a bit of undigested beef or blob of mustard or a crumb of cheese or an old potato..." We'll begin our first investigation in the Fall of 2008 at sites associated with the Colonel Crawford expedition into Ohio in 1782.
I'm also planning to write nonfiction history. On The Eve of War, Reflections of a Civil War Soldier Edward Michael Watson is the story of a cavalry officers experiences in the Civil War.
I edit and publish my own free eNewsletter entitled Kelly Steed, Speculative Fiction Author. In it, I try to pass along helpful advice to keep other writers from making the same mistakes in their careers that I have made.

Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my new erotic horror novel THE 13TH is now in stores everywhere! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride!
There's even a website devoted just to the book, with an interactive map of the places and characters at www.the13th-horror.com.
Edward Lee called THE 13TH "A double-barreled shotgun blast of macabre entertainment -- an expert amalgamation of grotesquerie, eroticism, mystery, and pitch-black occult horror that no fan of the genre can miss."
And Gary A. Braunbeck said, "John Everson's The 13th is the first out-and-out horror novel in a long while to actually scare the **** out of me while reading it. It's stylish, extremely well-written, filled with richly-drawn characterizations, and boasts a labyrinthine plot worthy of Umberto Eco. Trust me -- this one will fry your nerves and break your heart."

Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my 2nd horror novel SACRIFICE is now in stores everywhere, including Amazon.com! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride! Here are a couple reviews it's gotten so far:
“SACRIFICE is a full frontal assault on your senses. It is a dark, brutal, bloody and terribly frightening book. Everson went deep into some dark abyss to bring this book to the light of day.... I highly recommend SACRIFICE.” —Famous Monsters of Filmland
“John Everson manages in SACRIFICE to dispense buckets of blood, provide edgy perversity, and walk the tenuous tightrope of horror and sex without falling: It’s rather an amazing feat.” –Hell Notes
