In the poetry of the Japanese Butoh dance, a meditative line was written, which states, "Balance chaos and control like a calm rider on a stampeding horse." This maxim applies to the Special Dental Team's approach to the art of songwriting and performance.
Formed in 2002 in the suburbs of Holland, Michigan, Special Dental Team quickly realized their potential as song after song was crafted and technically mapped out. After 3 months of writing, SDT played their first show at "Skelletones" in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The response to their groovy and savvy songs was undeniably positive. Dental Team continued to play around West Michigan and wrote and recorded 3 albums in 2 years. The band also released self-produced live albums, an EP and even produced and financed their own hour long documentary.
Summer 2003, the band left the confines of West Michigan and each member branched out across the country and across the world. J.Hole Jackson (drums) relocated to Minnesota, writing music and performing with other up and coming bands. Johnny Unicorn moved to South Korea and then Los Angeles, where he crafted his solo project and contributed to other groups such as "Inside On" and "Phideaux." Lapdancer entered South Korea and then Japan, where he taught, translated and recorded harsh "noise" music for Japanese audiences. Unicorn and Lapdancer, while in South Korea at the same time, wrote, recorded, produced and financed their professional album "Of Whom (iTunes/CD Baby)."
In summer 2008, the band reassembled in West Michigan where, after five rehearsals, re-learned and improved older material, while setting right out by writing new songs and crafting an intense live set for their August 11th performance event called "Spirit Journey 2008." Satisfied with the outcome, the band has decided to work towards developing their work further and more professionally pursuing serious careers in music.
The power of Special Dental Team's music is infectious and mesmerizing, leaving crowds with mouths agape yet smiling.

thank YOU. seeing your band play was an experience, since i'd only heard bits of the recordings alex did. i was amazed at how "tight" (actually tight, not tight in the sense that it's what's people say when something's kinda neat) you guys were after such a long time apart and only a handful of practices. thanks for letting us pop in at such short notice, even though we were not "tight. " maybe the only thing you really have to thank me for is that my friend bought a poster!
Well, thanks a lot for letting us play. The DAAC is kind of a nasty echo box, and our volume got away from us, but everyone had a good time. Definitely keep in touch, and thanks for all the kind words.
