All is Suffering formed in Southern Maryland, USA in 1995 with the goal of creating epic death metal music to destroy other bands with. The co-founders of the band are Leonard L. (aka "Warbastard", lead guitar) and Eric H. (aka "Wartrash", lead guitar), who conceived the idea of the band in 1992 while rapidly tapping on their desks and making animal noises in their 9th grade civics class. Other original members include Jeremy H. (vocas), Levi T. (bass), and Sean "The Baghwat" H. (drums). With this line-up, the band would play a bunch of ridiculous local shows and parties and record two demo tapes at Oblivion Studios, Upper Marlboro, MD with the man who would become our longtime studio guru, Mr. Mike Bossier. The second demo was released into the underground for review. (Terrorizer mag, '97 or so)
Over All is Suffering's nearly eight years of hard-won existence, the music evolved from a groove-laden, primitive death metal/hardcore hybrid to take on elements of grindcore, crust, and thrash. This evolution was made possible by the expulsion of drummer Sean (1997) and the addition of explosive new force in extreme metal, drummer Mike P. (1998). Other personnel changes at that time included the short-lived adoption of bassists Ted T. and Pat J., respectively.
With Mike on hypercans the band instinctively amped-up the speed factor to grindcore levels and recorded its 3rd demo tape in 1998, consisting of six brutal songs. These songs would go on to complete the band's debut CD, The Past: Vindictive Sadisms of Petty Bureaucrats, released by Crucial Blast Records (2002).
In 1999, the band entered the studio again to record three crusty songs for a 7" record that would be released by Jason and Nate of Greensboro, NC for their label Renaissance Recordings. This was our 1st pressing and it's pretty cool so buy it if you see it. A small handful of shows from Georgia to New Jersey would soon follow. Notable gigs included Grind Fest in Atlanta with Hellnation, Social Infestation, Facedowninshit, and Asschapel; two dates with Total Fucking Destruction and Groinchurn; Teen Cthulhu at The Bloodshed in Baltimore.
Throughout this period and until the end, All is Suffering would be without a live bassist.
Mike quit the band in early 2001. During the downtime, Leonard and Eric continued to write music, trading-off on guitars and drums. Late in 2001, Mike was asked to rejoin and agreed. The band was back in business. During this time the band began negotiations with Earache Records and Rage of Achilles Records, but ultimately a deal was never realized with either label.
After playing a blazing set at the Brass Monkey in 2002, the band was approached by Adam W. of Crucial Blast Records who wanted to release a full-length All is Suffering CD. Comprised of 5 newly recorded songs, 3 songs from the 7", and the 6 song 1999 demo, the album was released as The Past: Vindictive Sadisms of Petty Bureaucrats. Our friends in the hardcore band Erase the Past were kind enough to let us join them for a dual record release show at the Sidebar in Baltimore for what would be a very well attended gig also featuring local acts Stout and Misery Index. The Past received critical acclaim in numerous magazines, including Metal Maniacs and S.O.D, and many webzines.
Another batch of songs were recorded in 2002 that would be independently released as the Execution by Flamethrower Cd-EP. Notable shows were performd with Electric Wizard and Warhorse at the old Ottobar; the Dead City Comes Alive Fest with Kylesa and Burnt By the Sun; and with Dysrhythmia and Cable in Pennsylvania. Two songs from this recording session would be pressed to vinyl by Matt S. for a 7" (500, 100 green) on his Scenester Credentials label which received excellent reviews in Heart Attack and Maximum RNR. Mike quit again and then rejoined after a few months.
Working harder than ever between 2002 and 2003, the band was perfecting what would have been its first 'true' full-length release. At this point, bullshit began to plague the band and brewing animosity led to the end. The year was 2003.
