About me: Chris started his life in music when he was just over 2 years old, playing his parents leslie. As his desire for musical knowledge grew, he tackled several instruments, from clarinet to tuba-even a brief relationship with guitar at age 7. At the time, however, his interest was wind instruments, and the guitar found a long-term home in the closet. At age 12, it came back out, this time with renewed focus. Initially playing with open E tuning, Chris wrote an entire album, including cover art, and knew that this was what he wanted to do. He continued playing tuba through high school, becoming the youngest person in the history of his school to be selected for the Vermont All-State band. But the desire to play rock guitar overtook all else. Along with school friend, drummer Todd Westfall, they formed a band, originally called "Phoss", and then, soon after, "Invisible Spectrum". Todd is the co-founder of SPECTRIS, whose name is a mutation of the old band title.
After graduating high school, Chris moved to Boston, where he played with a number of bands, not only as a guitarist, but as a bassist and keyboard player as well. None of those bands met with any success, but they all played small clubs regularly, providing Chris with forums to grow musically while becoming experienced in live settings. It also allowed him to make connections with local legends like Sib Hashian of BOSTON and David Robinson of THE CARS. Chris spent hours talking with them about their experiences, giving him unique insight into the business of music.
In 2001, He re-connected with old friend Todd Westfall, and decided to give music his most serious attempt to date. With the formation of SPECTRIS, Chris and Todd worked to forge a name in the progressive world. 2004 saw the realease of the self-titled debut from SPECTRIS, which has recieved critical acclaim. SPECTRIS played a number of high-profile shows, including opening for BADFINGER and large venue multi-band events like the Harley Rendezvous in New York, playing for an estimated crowd of 30,000. In late 2005, SPECTRIS underwent a personnel change, losing bass and keys. In 2006, Wade Mullins joined the band briefly for two key shows-The massive "Rock The Whale" festival in Enfield, New Hampshire-and then the Lowell Brewery in Lowell, Massachusetts for the world famous Prog-Rock society, NewEars. Reknown for their prog dedication, the Brewery has hosted artists from Keith Emerson to Spock's Beard. In the meantime, Chris has taken over keyboard duties live, reminiscent of Geddy Lee's back and forth bass-keyboard style.
Then, in 2007, CURST frontman Josh Mosher was lured into the SPECTRIS fold taking on full-time bass and vocal duties-A partnership that has worked beautifully and given the band a considerable boost-The Winter '07-'08 season was by far the busiest they have ever had. SPECTRIS continues to write new material for their upcoming album, which after some delays, mostly due to the plentiful gigs, should be completed by this fall.
Come see SPECTRIS at a venue near you! You won't be disappointed!

CHRIS'S EQUIPMENT: I have played Fender Stratocasters almost exclusively since 1986-After using Several different models, I still find the Floyd Rose Strat is my favorite-It's an import, but stays in tune 100% and suits my playing style perfectly. My number one instrument right now is this Strat, a 2003 Black HSS with white and chrome hardware and a rosewood fretboard. I string it with Fender Super 250's. I play through a Crate GFX 120 on stage and also use a Roland Micro Cube in the studio (The Roland MC simulates a Roland Jazz Chorus perfectly). I use a Morley Little Alligator Volume, a Dunlop Classic Wah, A Behringer Acoustic Sim pedal and occasionally a DOD Supra Distortion pedal and a Danelectro Corned Beef Reverb. I use Fender cables and Dunlop Tortex .88 picks as well as various slides. I also recently added a 2006 Candy-Apple Red Telecaster to the group-What a great instrument-I'ts my first Telecaster, and I love it!
