Spectrum is an LGBTQIA based student organization at DePaul University. It was founded in the fall of 2003. "Spectrum" refers to the acceptance and embracement of a diverse range of sexual and gender identities including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, and/or straight students, faculty, and staff.
What does Spectrum do?
Spectrum serves...
* As a safe space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer (LGBTQ), and straight allied students, faculty, and staff of DePaul University.
* To promote socialization among students with common interests in a fun and safe atmosphere.
* To explore the multicultural issues pertinent and specific to the LGBTQA community, specifically including the marginalized groups such as communities of color, lower economic communities, women, transgender, transsexual, gender fluid, intersex, and asexual people.
* As an outlet to engage in political and social activism in order to heighten awareness of LGBTQ issues on DePaul’s campuses and in the surrounding areas.
* As a forum to facilitate discussions, multicultural programming, create a presence at school and at the local level around diversity issues and areas of oppression in the LGBTQA community and to eradicate areas of homophobia, heterosexism, genderism, sexism, racism, elitism, classism, and xenophobia (and various other forms of discrimination) in the LGBTQIA community.
* As a host for at least one quarterly discussion on diversity issues and oppression in the LGBTQA community.
* As an outlet to provide informational programs, lectures, etc. that will stimulate growth among students, faculty, and staff.
