Rich Thair and Jakeone have been producing music together since 2001, forming Toob when Jake was providing an electronic angle to the formidable live sound of Rich’s band Red Snapper.

Their first releases were 12”s on Groovetech and Jake’s marvelously off-kilter club label, Flameboy. These were picked up by a wide range of top DJs - Rolando, Andrew Weatherall and Laurent Garnier to name a few. Their acclaimed first album “How to Spell Toob” was released on Lo Recordings in 2005. Continuing to defy the ever-narrowing genres in dance music, the club singles “The Miscreant” and “4 Walls” created quite a stir with DJs across the board in the UK and Europe.

Toob have always been about combining an epic techno sound with their love of afro-beat, dub and real twisted punk funk. The electronic with the organic. Their new album “Push Me, Pull You” sees them take this to a new level and pushing themselves both musically and production-wise. While Rich continues his quest for the perfect live break, Jake found his beaten up old bass, electric guitars… and his voice. In the clubs Jake had been experimenting using his vocals as another texture and a way to make the music a more direct and personal communication. On the record they’ve taken it further - enlisting the help of Alpha's Wendy Stubbs, her powerful harmonies bringing a new psychedelic gospel dimension to the music.

The album also features a track written with Tim Simenon (Bomb the Bass) - the stealthy, breakbeat meets soundtrack monster 'Pirate Teeth’. It proved a successful collaboration and Jake and Rich both feature on BTB's forthcoming album 'Future Chaos'.

'Push Me, Pull You' has a big sound. On mixing duties, Jake has managed to capture the expanse and energy of the Toob live show and as the album deftly switches styles and tempos throughout, their combined experience as both musicians and producers shines through.

Slabs of the Tabernacle NYE Party @ La Cheetah Club (formerly The Twisted Wheel) 31/12/09

Mark du Mosch (Moustache Records - Rotterdam)
Electrick Dragon LIVE (Rotterdam)
Casionova (Cyber Dance Records, Magic Waves, IFM)
Slabs of the Tabernacle DJs

Headlining the New Year party we welcome back Mark du Mosch. This will be his third time at Slabs so it's fair to say that we have much respect for the Rotterdam artist. An obsessive collector, Mark's DJ sets manage to be intriguing and hard rocking in equal measures, and we really couldn't think of anyone better to headline the New Year extravaganza.

Joining Mark will be fellow Rotterdamer Ricky the Dragon, performing a rare live set as Electrick Dragon. Having put out records dating right back to the early 90s (under many many aliases), Ricky carries with him some proper techno credentials. With his most recent output on Moustache Records he has produced two epic synth party bombs that are now firm favourites of ours. We first caught the Dragon live show at the Magic Waves festival earlier this year and it blew us all away, and so are delighted to welcome Ricky to Glasgow for his first Scottish performance.

And finally, making the trip up from Brighton will be the Italo battle axe Casionova. Over the past two years Casionova has become a permanent fixture at Slabs of the Tabernacle. His DJ sets are straight from the heart affairs and again we couldn't think of a better guest to see off 2009.

New Release from Section 27 Netlabel
[S27-028] ADVIRUZ - NIGHTLY SOUNDS
(IDM, Glitch, Experimental)

Adviruz is the artist psedonym of Istanbul’s Pinar Gurcan, whose growing passion for sound is translated through her music. Since an early age, she has been listening and mimicking opera singers, writing melodies, songs and poems in which she spoke her mind and reflected her soul. All of which are evident on "Nightly Sounds", an 8 track album which is the equivilent of having a glimpse into a diary, learning of love lost, gained, a snapshot of the human condition from which we can all draw experience... All of these things are developed musically into minimalistic glitch, noise, idm, experimental music and microsounds, influences reminiscent of work by artists like Tujiko Noriko, Mira Calix, Plaid and Björk.

Adviruz and Section 27 present "Nightly Sounds", an intricately woven and rewarding musical tapestry. Available now for free download.

[S27-027] V.A - Sectioned

To celebrate our first 27 releases on Section 27 Netlabel, we proudly present to you "Sectioned", a free compilation of 27 tracks, amounting to 2 hours across two discs of twisted electronic beats, discordant melodies, haunting passages, broken ambience, bending senses of time and space, microscopic glitches, pounding bass frequencies, sounds between sounds, the human voice and the audible sensation of music dissolving in acid. This is the sound of your mind's eye. This is the sound of the Sectioned... Strap yourself in and enjoy the experience.

Also features a 75 minute bonus disc "Sectioned : Nonimxs", including 9 remixes of selected Section 27 artists by Nonima and 2 original tracks created by Silent Snow and Nina Kardec using existing Nonima tracks.

[S27-026] Nonima & theAudiologist - Almost Tomorrow
(Glitch, Ambient, Downtempo, IDM)

Almost Tomorrow is the third full length collaboration album from Section 27 Netlabel founders Tam Ferrans and Andrew Paterson, under their Nonima & theAudiologist guise. This time around the sound is more melodic, and has a definite feeling of a complete and more mature sound than heard on the previous LP's "Dystopian Battle Hymns" and "Ceremony After Amputation". If you are familiar with their individual projects you may even be in for a slight surprise, as the tracks are not as beat driven like before, but are more atmospheric and sound, well... "bigger". In its 75 minutes, Almost Tomorrow takes you on a trip from the digital rain-soaked cavernous scraping in "Thoughtograph", the ethereal beat jittering of "The Colour of Rain", intercepted transmissions from unknown places in "Com-Intercept", "Ganzfeld"s huge yet strangely insect-like beats until everything you knew comes crashing around you in "Almost Tomorrow". Burning pianos, glitched out soundscapes and intricately programmed beatplay, this may well be their best work to date. Consider it the soundtrack to a rainy overcastday, but with just that glimmer of sunshine peeking from the clouds. "Almost Tomorrow" wears its heart on its sleeve.
