Spencer Garn plays Hammond B3 organ and other keyboards. He performs with Atlanta's premier 8 piece soul group Soulphonics & Ruby Velle, the 3 piece surf/lounge instrumental combo known as The Jaguars, and his own project Psychedelic Organ, a hard hitting 4 piece instrumental group that ranges from rock-n-roll grooves mixed with Mediterranean exotica style melodies and hard soul and funk rhythms. In addition, he has lead other various trio(SG3) and quartet(SG4) jazz-funk type groups through the years and still does on occasion.
Inspired by the infectious sound of the Hammond B3 organ from early 60's era jazz recordings all the way to the present, Spencer Garn has laid down his own foot-stomping groove, while exploring the endless ample space that the B3 has to offer, and is putting himself on the map in multiple genre's and doing it well.
What's Happening!
Garn currently resides in Atlanta, GA where he's keepin busy with Soulphonics & Ruby Velle writing and recording music with fellow Soulphonics band members. Lately, he's been working on original recordings for The Jaguars along with band members, Scott Clayton (guitar), and Mark Raudabaugh (drums). The Jaguars performed live for the first time recently on JAN 29, 2009 at the 529 in East Atlanta Village. At this time, Spencer is also working on a catalog of music for film and tv!
Back in the day....
In addition to Soulphonics, since early 2006 Garn has led various arrangements of SG4 (Spencer Garn Quartet) and SG3. Both instrumental jazz-funk groups have played lounges, festivals, private parties and other venues from Miami to NYC performing regularly to this current day! In 2007, Garn and crew recorded some debut recordings at DJ Le Spams studio in North Miami Beach.
Spencer G. has recorded or performed with and is thankful to have shared the stage with the following musicians: Jim Payne, Melvin Sparks, Cochemea Gastelum, DJ Le Spam & The Spam Allstars, Papa Mali, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, Grant Green Jr., Mike Clark Trio, Jerry Z, Al Street, Sharon Jones & The Dapkings, Melvin Seals, JJ Grey, Mofro, Suenalo, Yonrico Scott, Deji Coker, Kevin "Kalimba" Spears, The Legendary J.C.'s, Galactic, Toots & The Maytals, and a bag of fellow Soulphonics band members and many more.....

the first time I mixed you guys was fun, but when you came back this past thursday, it was a riot. stellar musicianship, funk, more funk, great vibes, it was really refreshing. I've mixed other jazzy funk groups and you guys had me groovin' all night. tell that drummer he's freakin' amazing, and I loved that baritone sax. such a great pairing of instruments all around, and you guys definitely know your stuff. I hope I get a chance to mix you again in the very near future. Oh, and thanks for the tip on mic-ing that leslie, I don't see those often, but they sound great. keep it funky guys...
