Speshil K, real name Joel Orr, was born in September of ’81 in Lynchburg, VA. He moved all up and down the East Coast because of his father’s profession and in ’95 moved to Warner Robins, GA where he stayed for most of his adult life. In ’99 he received a scholarship for acting and basketball and moved to Greenville, SC, to go to college. It was there he found his love for music in a personal way and decided to become a musician.
In 2000, he returned from college and met the man whom he would form an inseparable bond with through music, Hollywood. As a part of the record label, World War Entertainment, he, Hollywood, and other label mates dropped their first underground album, “The Briefing”, in late 2000. The following year, World War Ent. opened for Rehab and other South Eastern acts throughout the Middle Georgia area. During that time, Hollywood and Speshil K started a new label, Under Mind Records, and the group, World War, consisting of just the two of them. In December of ‘02, they dropped their debut group album, “Drugs, Sex, and More Alcohol”, but on the night of the record release party, Speshil K violated the terms of his probation and was locked up until mid-way through 2003.
Speshil K was released in June of ‘03 and resumed work within the group. But differences of opinions split the group apart throughout the rest of the year. But in 2004, Speshil K approached Hollywood about work on his debut solo project and Hollywood agreed to produce the album. Speshil K dropped his first solo album, “Trust Nobody”, a violent/drug-filled opus which was a juiced up extension of their 2002 album. But early into the promotional phase Speshil K went through a nasty divorce/custody battle that lasted nearly two years and he went into hibernation from the music scene.
In February of 2007, Speshil K received full-custodial rights to his son and pushed the bad years to the back of his vision. He and Hollywood decided a new tactic as they prepared for their first group album in nearly 5 years, bring hip-hop back to the essence of what it was built on, “Keepin’ It Real”. Their new approach spawned their most successful album to date, “Rebel Music”, which they dropped in October of the same year.
After much promotion throughout ’07 until midway through the ’08 year, Speshil K and Hollywood were forced to go separate ways again due to conflicting schedules. Speshil K again set out to piece together a solo masterpiece. With the help of multiple producing teams and artists such as G!-manFantastic, J.L. from Apakacrakers, Nu Soul Solutions(Soul Theory), Truth Speaks, Sneaky Beats, and Hollywood, he has crafted a new form of hip-hop mixing truth with the cockiness and swagger only Speshil K can provide.
