Synopsis for Spider Baby
Song: Cannibal Orgy (Copyright Perma Records used with permission.)
Lights up Peter Howe. He explains how the Merrye clan suffer from an extremely rare condition called the "Merrye Syndrome". Victims suffer from "progressive age regression" (the older they get the younger they act) that may "progress beyond the pre-natal level -- reverting to a pre-human condition of savagery and cannibalism."
We then cut to a messenger delivering a letter to the Merrye residence. He falls afoul of Virginia who is in the midst of playing spider. She captures him in one of her webs and takes the game to its logical conclusion. Killing the messenger
She is chastised by her little sister, Elizabeth, just as their caretaker Bruno comes back from a doctor visit with their older brother, Ralph. He's horrified at what Virginia has done but is more frightened by the letter. Distant relatives and their lawyer are showing up today to take possession of the house and institutionalize the children. Youngest sister Elizabeth forms an instant hatred for the outsiders but Bruno reminds them that its not nice to hate.
Song: Its not nice to hate
Ralph takes center stage and in song explains what its like to slowly loose your mind and not be able to tell anyone.
Song: Slipping away
The relatives, Peter and Emily Howe, arrive with their lawyer Mr. Shlocker and his secretary Ann. They have a brief but memorable encounter with oldest of the children Ralph. After introductions are made the group settle down for dinner.
Song: What are they thinking?
The strangers, against Bruno's objections, decide to stay the night. All except Ann, who is creeped out by the house. Peter who has been developing a crush on the secretary offers to give her a ride into town. After they leave Virginia reveals the crush shes been developing on Peter.
Song: The Kiss
Everyone settles in for the night and Emily in song reveals shes not the staid and uptight person she appears to be.
Song: Inside of me
Virginia and Elizabeth observe a nightly ritual in the Merrye household of saying goodnight to their father. The fact that hes been dead for years doesn't bother them in the slightest as they cradle his corpse and sing him a lullaby
Song: Goodnight daddy
After everyone has gone to bed Shlocker explores the house stumbling unto the basement and the pit where the older members of the family are being kept. He in turn is discovered by Elizabeth and Virginia who, to keep their secret, kill him.
As the girls try and hide the body they run across Bruno. Bruno, realizing that he is getting to old to prevent them from hurting themselves or others, decides to do something about the children once and for all. He reassures them that he still loves them and makes them promise to stay in the house while he goes to get them a surprise.
Upstairs Ralph sneaks into Emily's room and molests her while she sleeps. She wakes and flees in horror. The children chase her across the property but it is Ralph who catches her first and rapes her.
Peter and Ann return unable to find lodging in town. What they did find was a bar. After a few drinks their inhibitions have lowered and they explore feelings for each other they've been developing all night.
Song: The way you look at me
The couple head back to the house having no place else to stay. The children decide that Peter and Ann must be gotten rid of as well, since they too will probably tell, and so they split the couple up.
Virginia is finally alone with Uncle Peter and free to explore the feelings she doesn't fully understand. Under the pretext of playing spider she ties Peter to a chair and dances for him while singing.
Song: Uncle Peter
Peter not wanting to take advantage of a mentally handicapped 17 year old relative doesn't respond to her advances. So not knowing what else to do she prepares to take the game to its conclusion.
She is interrupted by Elizabeth. She and Ralph are having trouble with Ann in the basement and need Virginia's help. She leaves Peter tied to his chair.
Emily meanwhile has gone mad from a combination of her ordeal and probably due to the fact that she too suffers from the Merrye Syndrome to a lesser extant. She rises from where Ralph left her and drifts wraith-like back into the house. She finds the children in the basement and in a combination of lust and rage mounts Ralph while gouging out his eyes. The girls wrestle Emily from Ralph and throw her in the pit where the older generation dispose of her.
Bruno returns with a case of dynamite hes stolen from a local construction site. He sits the children down and explains to them that they don't have to worry about anyone trying to split them up ever again. As he prepares a bundle he sings to calm the children.
Song: Children
Peter has managed to free himself and rescues Ann just in time to avoid the explosion.
We skip ahead a few years. Peter and Ann are married and living on the inheritance of the Merrye estate. They've had a daughter of whom they are very proud. Till they notice shes doing something terrible to a neighbor boy.
We then meet the ghost of Ebenezer Merrye who addresses the audience. He professes pride in his family. Despite the fact that they are murders and monsters they are continuing a family tradition. He is joined by the cast for one final number.
Song: Good to see the family carry on.
