Spiderplain was formed in mid '04, the core of the group being Oliver Labone (guitar/bass/vocals) and Joe Dobson (drums) (Luke Marlow currently plays bass for the group's live shows). They played their first show in March '05 at Valve in Wellington. Since then they have played with many bands including: Die! Die! Die!, Jakob, Operation Rolling Thunder, The Dukes of Leisure, and Rico Suave.
Their sound, best described as "sonic-rock", is a mix of intensity and tranquility. Beautiful, crystalline sounds can give way to crushing saturation within seconds. Songs rise and fall, taking you in some unexpected directions. If you ever thought that three piece bands sounded thin and weak, then you need to see Spiderplain to be shown how very wrong you could be. Ear-plugs are recommended if you value your hearing.

My friends and I really enjoyed your gig last night @ The Adelaide. You guys are a tight unit and a real talent. We'll definately be keeping an eye on your myspace page for upcoming gigs.
'Cathedrals' is a great track. A real hypnotic groover.
You get a good sound out of that SG Ollie. Joe, that drumming is tight.
Really enjoyed the show with Newtown Street Justice and Dukes of Leisure. Unfortunately I didn't hear the last one - however I hear that it was VERY..................... loud!
