spins & needles craft + DJ night is Canada's first established, independent cultural event that mixes hip do-it-yourself projects with funky music spun by DJs in various galleries, bars and esoteric spaces across the country.
Based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the night was created in 2005 by organizers Melanie Yugo (the crafter/designer) and Jason Pelletier (the DJ). For a small cover charge, creative types and nightlife-ers gain access to materials and instructions to make a featured art/craft project while having a few drinks and listening to DJs spin beats. Voted 1st runner up by Ottawa Xpress readers as "Best Night Out".
Other spin-off events include the monthly Disco Bingo Night at Shanghai Restaurant (Ottawa), craft sales, various workshops including silkscreening workshops, plus afterhours installments at the National Gallery of Canada and Canadian Museum of Civilization. This promo mixset is a sampler of the slower stuff I like to play as Tao Jones. It's basically a condensed version fo the hour and a half to two hours I normally play. It starts off all chunky and hiphop, gets glitchy, rages it, catches it's breath, and then get's all wobbly in the low end. The last track I probably wouldn't play at an event unless it was really appropriate, but it's one of my favourite songs ever so I thought I'd share it with you.
