About me:
The SPIRAL Foundation's operations in Vietnam and Nepal are inspired by the principle of "Aid from within the Country". Since 1999, The S.P.I.R.A.L. Foundation has financed humanitarian aid projects with the proceeds generated by income producing handicraft workshops. Currently over 1000 Vietnamese and Nepalese are employed with fair wages based on an hourly rate and not on piece-work. All net proceeds from the handicraft sales are returned to Vietnam and Nepal to fund primary health care, medical and educational projects, giving to those involved in the production process a sense of pride that comes by helping and sustaining many others, in even greater need than themselves. Members of all The Spiral Foundation Workshops, have an active role in the allocation and monitoring of all funds generated by proceeds from the sales of The Spiral Foundation Gift Line. Currently more than 180 gift items designed by The Spiral Foundation are produced in Vietnam and Nepal and successfully selling worldwide. All items are produced with a consciousness towards the environment. Discarded materials are often used for / or incorporated in our gift line. All items are produced with a consciousness towards the preservation and the revival of the local handicraft traditions. Full transparency in all accounting with all workshop members, with all beneficiaries of the humanitarian aid funding and with all involved in the resale market. ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE SPIRAL FOUNDATION : * Employment for 1000 people in Vietnam & Nepal with fair salaries as of '06 * 155 Heart surgeries & treatments for children with life threatening disease in Hue, Vietnam since '03 * $90,000 donated to build the Ilam Clinic, Nepal * The Purchase of Anesthesia Machine for Ilam Clinic, Nepal * 6800 Vaccinations in Nepal every year since '03 * The construction of the Dhading Library in Nepal serving 600 students * Sign language education for 60 hearing impaired in Hue, Vietnam * Salaries for 10 teachers in Nepal every year since '03 * A Cow for the livelihood of the Minh Giau's family in Vietnam * 7 Scholarships in the village of Tipling, Nepal every year since '03 * 3 Years of schooling for 12 orphan girls in Sapa, Vietnam * Salaries for 2 healthcare workers responsible for the Shertung and Tipling Health Posts in Nepal every year since '03 * Medical treatment for 35 critically ill patients in Nepal every year since '03 * 3 Years of English classes for 10 Members of the Hanoi Workshop * 10,000 cardamon seeds planted in Nepal * Financial support for 42 families in Hanoi for 2 years * A Scooter for Phuong specially fitted for her special needs * Visit of 2 members of the Hanoi Workshop to attend the LA Gift Show * 16 Handicraft Workshops in Vietnam & Nepal for over 100 participants * The purchase of 35 angora rabbits to produce our angora wool items in Nepal & happily multiplying daily.
