Spiral Mama is my expression of appreciation for wild creatures and landscapes everywhere. I also owe my gratitude to the people of Zimbabwe, especially the teachers who have shared their music with me and brought me such joy with the rhythms and melodies, dance and song of their culture.
I have played the mbira, a traditional instrument from Zimbabwe, and performed traditional African dance throughout the Western United States, New York City, and now Washington DC since 1996. I am grateful to my friend Seth Roback for producing these songs and adding his brilliant accompaniments. I would love to hear from anyone who is in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area and wants to play or learn some mbira, or drum, sing or teach me harmonica!
Every time that we listen & write music... play an instrument... dance... act in a play... or work in some audio/image/video engineering process... something is healing inside...
When we share it with friends... something is healing all over...
