Praise for "What We Will Be": .. .. An excellent album…everyone should listen to this. .. -Bolachas .. .. "What We Will Be" has all the sweeping, playful, overwrought, lo-fi wonder and wizardry that Stephin Merritt cooks up when he barricades himself in the bedroom with a Casio and a ukulele. The album juggles folky singalongs and spaced-out ruminations, maintaining a welcome air but remaining a single-minded undertaking. Like a time capsule or postcard, it delivers a message, a summarizing snapshot from a clearly demarked span of time. Such singular works are the product of experience, and though the stories behind the songs will elude us, I at least am gratified to know they came from somewhere. .. -Rock-o-Clock .. .. “Green Street” is a jangly springtime anthem about bros and drugs and looking back. Touchstoning The Verlaines for the track’s bright open chords, the track’s sing-along chorus pummels with yelps and post-punk percussion that has to be pounded out on the dashboard. The rest of the eleven tracks on "What We Will Be" are filled with a collage of Ambien hazes and boozy fuck-you’s, but “Green Street” is an excellent introduction to Balliett’s knack for writing an unforgettable hook. Roll down the windows in your friend’s jeep, blast this track and admit to yourself that these are probably the best days of your life, bro. .. -Garbage Days

Oh hello Thersa
i put on "smigel" in the car as slothbear was stuck in traffic last night, that's a really good song. congrats on the album, especially the second half of it. i really like the cover art, too.
i think it's cool to see the subtle ways in which animal collective infiltrates the music AC fans make (ie- antithesis of keepaway). i can see where you're a sung tongs guy at times on the record, and feel like us being more into SJ is sometimes evident.
take care,
craig
Great CD man!
