Here's the deal, my name is Spiro and I'm three weeks and four days old and I have had quite a life already. My mom kind of killed me on my first night of life and my new mommies saved me. They found my mom laying on top of me and I was beyond blue and not breathing. I took one last gasp to let them know that I was a fighter and they rubbed me and kept me warm until I turned pink and started breathing normally. I wasn't getting enough milk from my mom so they tried to give me a bottle, but I drink way too quickly so they had to take it away since they say it's not supposed to go into my lungs. Last week they thought I might be old enough to try the bottle again, but I scared them and got a lot in my chest and had to have oxygen and a croup tent with a humidifier to clear the fluid out. Now I'm back to the feeding tube and man do I hate that thing being shoved down my throat. I get to eat soft food every other meal and I LOVE to bury my whole body in the bowl and swim in it; I always have to have a bath afterwards which makes me cold and grumpy. My moms used to feed me every two hours all night long and boy do they look awful dealing with sleep deprivation, but now I only eat every four hours, so they aren't quite so exhausted. My sister Beacon helps to take care of me, I look up to her and hope I'll be as pretty and big as she is some day.
This was a big week for me, I started being able to see and hear, I'm getting teeth, I can stand on my own for a long time without falling, I play with toys, and I learned how to scream to get my people's attention, they especially love that one after my five a.m. feeding.
I'm getting big and strong. I weighed 130 grams when I was born and then lost some, but as of this afternoon I'm up to 583 grams. My siblings all weigh several pounds now, but the gap between us isn't getting bigger, I'm catching up and holding my own.
But really I am so loved. I go to work with my mom everyday and have so many friends there, they even threw me a one week birthday party with cake, juice, and presents, even dogs came to the party and they had treats too. My God mom Jen helps mommy take care of me, feed and clean me up. She's pretty crazy and makes me laugh when she scratches my itchy spots. Mom takes so many pictures of me everyday that she has to charge her phone every night. I love my people and don't like to be away from them. Sometimes I cry and they pick me up and I fall asleep before they can even walk across the room, I just want to be near them. They saved my life and fell in love with me. Me and my siblings were gonna go to new homes, but now my mommies won't let me out of their sight. They say that I'm a survivor and they gave me the name Spiro because it means breath and I gave one last breath to show them I could make it. They found a quote "Dum Spiro Spero" meaning "While I breathe, I hope." They prayed for me and I fought for them. My registered name will be Watermark's Invincible and I think I'll keep them.
