Formed in 2002 Spitfire was created by brothers Lee and Wayne Ford, after Wayne split from former band Astoria in 2001. Having recruited the bass talents of long time friend Gavin Marr, they set about writing music; they found it to be none existent in the backstreet towns of Lancashire. After finalising the line up with former drummer Peter Clawson, they set to be gigging the length and breadth of the country night after night. Before long Spitfire had built a sizeable following and began receiving interest from a number of companies, promoters, managers and artists alike, which culminated in recording sessions for Pye Music International where the track “Daylight” was created. Doing this it led to regular gigging on the London circuit including a support slot with “Mani” (The Stone Roses/Primal Scream)
Due to reasons beyond the bands control Peter Clawson quit the band, this was a critical time for the band as they were on the verge of something big. Having spent over a year locked in the studio writing and tweaking new material, they thought chances of getting a new drummer would very slim, after a number of auditions they still hadn’t found a drummer who would able to do the job they was looking for.
In November 2007 Spitfire received an email of a drummer called Richard Henry, he had been in a Warrington band called The Straize, sadly they split in the October, leaving Richard with out a band to play in, what the band didn’t no is when Richard contacted them, they didn’t no he was a Burnley lad! Until he mentioned it at the audition. On the audition Richard proved that he was the guy Spitfire had been awaiting for. Richard is now the new addition to Spitfire.
Now Spitfire have got a steady line up, it should be a good year for them, with a couple of low key gigs in the new year, and a recording session in the Easter, who no’s what will happen.
Heres a message from the band,
“ Thanks for all your support over the last couple of years, and especially for the last year while we’ve been without a drummer, now we have a drummer, things are sounding good, and we are getting back into shape, we seem to have come back bigger and stronger this time around. We have been working on our Debut E.P “Not So Innocent” Check it out on our tunes;Let us no what you think :) The E.P should be in shops this summer.
Cya on the road this year”
Peace and Love
