The dream first started to take shape in 2005 when Marco Brantner met Pedro Leal. After taking part in a music contest, the two thought it would be a good idea to start a band. All went well to start with, but soon Pedro realized he couldn’t successfully juggle his studies and his musical commitments, whilst Marco was looking to take his music further.
Soon he was to meet Daniel Ramos – a like-minded soul in many ways. The two discovered they had the same ideas and priorities where their music was concerned, that is, to see it as an art form and use it as a way to express their feelings and communicate them to others. They started to write and play songs together, but couldn’t finalize what they were doing without the extra musicians (keyboard player, bass and drummer) and the technical knowhow and equipment needed to achieve such a venture.
A few people came and went, but it wasn’t until Paulo Baixinho came along that they really felt that here was the right person to help them accomplish their aims. It was important that he enjoyed their music and shared their aspirations to produce their songs in the way that had been intended. When Marco and Daniel played alongside Baixinho and his fellow musicians (Zé Paulo Ribeira and Bruno Pereira), there was an immediate chemistry, the feeling that they’d been playing together forever.
It took seven months to produce the album called “What if..?”. Marco and Daniel were really happy with the end product – it expressed the feelings they had wanted to portray in the way they had hoped for. Furthermore, there had been no extra financial backing whatsoever; the project was financed solely by the artists themselves. Promotion of the album to date has been done purely by Internet and there has been excellent positive feedback worldwide with many requests for live performances in the four corners of the globe. Marco and Daniel – now “Spleen Poetry”, a name they feel rightly expresses the sentiments of their music – are looking to respond to their fans, ever increasing in numbers, and take their music to the people – live!
