NEWS -- NEW SPLENDER RECORD AND NATIONAL TOUR ON THE WAY IN '09 !! KEEP POSTED

Guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Waymon Boone and bassist James Cruz formed the alternative pop/rock quartet Splender. The New York-based group went through various incarnations, eventually choosing drummer Marc Slutsky and lead guitarist Jonathan Svec to round out the band.

The fledgling group embarked on an extensive European festival tour opening for such nu-metal titans as Korn, as well as playing various gigs around New York City. Bandleader Waymon Boone was the son of a professional R&B/disco singer and often accompanied his mother on the road. While traveling with her, he witnessed first-hand the hardships that go along with being a musician.

This did not deter him or the band as they were finally rewarded with a recording contract from Columbia Records after they were awarded best band at a contest. Their years of hard work paid off when they teamed with respected musician/producer Todd Rundgren on their 1999 debut album Halfway Down the Sky. The album spawned two crossover hits in "Yeah, Whatever" and "I Think God Can Explain." In 2001, the band signed with legendary music mogul Clive Davis' J Records. A year later, To Whom It May Concern was released.

Shortly following their second release, the group disbanded to start other projects.

Thanks for the friend request. I love Splender and miss them. If things aren't happening with Headrush, it would be great to see Splender back together. A new album would be great.

i would have to say none. i am tempted to say one song, but another begs to be one. and another. so every song's a favorite. haha.

i'll just say it's one of the very few albums that could go on loop in my car stereo.

oh, and my mom loves "i think god can explain".

I saw you guys at Santapalooza 1999 in Virginia Beach. I met you Waymon, and shook your hand and told you that you guys kick ass and how I loved your entire CD. You were so gracious and thanked me. I'll never forget it.

Anyway, I was watching VH1's 100 Greatest Teen Stars tonight and they played "I Think God Can Explain" during Kirk Cameron's clip and it made me very nostalgic for your music (which I listen to all the time - STILL).

The best of luck with Headrush and get 'The Weight Of The Water' out there, would ya? I love the EP, but I'm craving more!

A fan always!

Waymon, this was such a good time in my life too. I caught all your San Francisco shows and it was such a pleasure to see Splender grow as a group and entertainers. Last show I saw of yours was at the Fillmore. Amazing show!
