Splinters is an opportunity for Seattle-based musician/sound designer Ben Torrence to release some of his computer-based compositions that fall outside of the styles and/or collaboritive working methods of the laptop duo, Bookmobile, that he's in along with Victor Couto.
Ben has been an active musician writing and performing in various bands since 1993. He has played drums and/or bass (even a little guitar) in a number of indie bands playing everything from hardcore and math-rock to slow-core and space rock, pop, freely-improvised music, and computer-based music of many hues. (Quell, City Of, Field Notes, Recidivist, Lamplighter, Bookmobile and others). He is also currently playing post-whatever rock music with longtime musical collaborator and Woodson Lateral Records co-founder Robbie Hunt in Lunch Buddy Program.
Ben began making music with computers as early as he had the means to do so, beginning with general midi tinkerings back in 1995.
Splinters is presently honing material for his 3rd full-length release on Woodson Lateral Records, to be titled "In the Footsteps of Insects," which will focus on a "buggier" take on the microsound-infused clicks'n'bleeps/minimal techno/IDM mash heard on his first two albums. He is also simultaneously cultivating batches of tracks for future releases-- some in a more stripped-down contemplative minimal/abstract/drone vien, and others in a more dancefloor-friendly minimal techno style.
