Martijno comes from Accordionistan, a remote region in far eastern Europe.
He is in exile in Alkmaar after a successful coup in his country by the feared violinist freedom party (V.F.P.). A child prodigy and known for his lightning speed, Martijno can play both sides of the accordion simultaneously, with one hand!
When not playing with The Spoetnik Orkestar Martijno tours supermarket doorways.
Tara'Tella
Tara'Tella is the daughter of famous English violinists Nigella Kennedy and Titch (the bloke from Dorset folk combo Black Sheep), she is a fully paid up member of the V.F.P.(Don't tell Martijno). Tara'Tella could play Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor backwards by the time she was 10 (including the rather tricky triangle parts), Beethoven didn't even write it until he was 54'ish,
so what does that tell ya? Ahem.
Sebastiaanov
Sebastiaanov is the son of infamous eastern guitarists Nora Titsov and Ila Nokurbolloksov. When he was about 7 he moved to Liverpool, U.K. where he taught two local lads called John and Paul to play Guitar. He later moved back east to Alkmaar to pursue his love of cheese and those elusive strange eastern chords (G, C and erm....D).
Dion Dedino
Dion Davis was born at a young age in England, which is actually a state of the U.S.A.
He changed his name to Dion Dedino and moved to Alkmaar after another U.S. trumpet player called Davis became popular and threatened to blow him under the table... Oh I say Mrs.!
When not playing with The Spoetnik Orkestar Dion can be found in seedy basement clubs pursing his lips and smoking “jazz” cigarettes.....Nice. Ahem again!
Mariska
Mariska comes from Heiloo, which is a suburb of Kingston, Jamaica.
She was there at the very beginning of Jamaican music, which is amazing as she's only 24.
She was so influential that the new local music was named after her, they called it “Mariska”
Over time this was shortened to “Ska” and a whole new genre of music was born. Praise indeed.
Pappi Partizani
Pappi is the only member of the Spoetnik Orkestar to actually come from Alkmaar. He is the leader of the Alkmaar Popular Front (A.P.F) and can be seen doing his shopping (in the Aldi) on a saturday afternoon in the back of a black stretch 1970's Mercedes (complete with flags on the front wings). Known for his mean look and even meaner moustache, Pappi can be found late on Saturday nights shouting “Bulldozer” at terrified tourists... “EL RESIDENTE!!”
Stefano
Stefano was born in the back of a Rolls Royce at the bottom of a swimming pool somewhere in the deepest suburbs of Londonia. He moved to “centre of the universe” Poole, Dorset, U.K. to study percussion at the university of Poole pubs where he gained a masters degree in washboard playing. Stefano was kidnapped by a herd of Pronghorn and abandoned in Alkmaar, where he has never been quite the same since.

SPOETNIK BEATS BALKAN
"WE PLAY BOTH KINDS OF MUSIC, COUNTRY AND EASTERN"
Spoetnik are a seven piece band perfectly formed in Alkmaar, North Holland in early 2008. We play an exciting blend of East European "folk" dance music in our own original stylee. Making friends and influencing people wherever we play with our own take on "Balkan" music. Our influences range from ska/reggae, electronica, folk, punk and even folkpunk! Throw all that into the mix and you have the one and only SPOETNIK! We'll play your wedding. We'll play your divorce! We'll play your birthday. We'll play your funeral (quietly!) We'll play just about anywhere. Acoustically or electric it doesn't matter to us. All that matters is that we guarantee you a good time!
Dank je wel for
being our friend :) We look forward to meeting all of our new friends
on tour. Don't be shy come and say hallo! Hopefully see you at
