Saul Williams, Bradley Hathaway, Richard Siken, Suheir Hammad, Andrea Gibson, e.e. cummings, T.S. Eliot, Sonia Sanchez - Any poetry, slam or otherwise, that I can manage to get my hands on.
Female, 18, body somewhere in Northern Southern California, head somewhere in the clouds, heart always, always in a book.
Introduced to the concept of performance poetry, spoken word, or as it is mostly fond known-slam poetry, two years ago, I wrote a handful of poems with some intention of being on stage.
Two competitions later and one independant film later, they start to get recorded, permanent evidence of what seems to be a fairly long lasting passion.
So this is slam poetry, the love of my life, words with no music but that inherent within the English language and enhanced by emotion.
Some is honest, some lies. Some artistic, some cathartic. All poorly recorded on a home laptop, and hopefully replaced with better copies in the near future.
So thank you for listening.
And especially, thank you to one Mrs. Somers who first told me what slam was, and then gave me a stage, and thus started all of this. And thank you to my dear friends who listened to all of these live and were always willing to let me spout of some new piece of work in the middle of a conversation. You are my loves.
hey, no worries- it was cool. i'm sure when you do get the stage you'll blow everybody's minds. and yea, i'll definitely give you a call. teach me about wicca! i want to scare my christian parents.
You paint sort of impressionist paintings with your words, you know? Light slanting at different angles on thr same object, and with the hitch in your breath and the poetry you speak, something changes, shifts, and you had better be damned sure that it is beautiful.
I am so ridiculous glad you put the Kiln Poem up! & IV, the angry poem, because even in its own calm fury it reminds me of good times with creative writing reunions. I freakin' love slam. Peace.
