Dear Al,

How goes the life of a guitar god? I'm writing you today to call on those supernatural fretboard powers of yours. I'm sure Lil already told you that we were hoping you'd guest-shred for our upcoming show on the 29th.. what's yr schedule usually like weekdays?- best time to get together for a practice? i'm thinking we could do a classic cover w/ a gratuitous solo for you to go ape on.
let me know bro!

I read an amazing book called Comic Wars, which covers the whole history of Marvel. They were bought out in the early 80s by one of the those junk bonds companies, who kept using Marvel money to bail out all their other failing businesses. At that time, Marvel was the most successful comic venture of all time, yet they were not on the big screen, and only had The Hulk on TV. A couple Spiderman cartoons. One of their shareholders kept asking "why are there no Marvel Superhero movies?" There was Superman, Batman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, etc, but no Marvel. The reason was, their owners kept mortgaging the franchise so they couldn't afford to make movies. A lone stockholder was an entrepreneur who started all those .99 cent stores by buying items that were being liquidated by all those other companies who went belly-up during the considation/buying frenzy of '80s. He paid pennies on the dollar for liquidated stock and put it back up for sale at those stores. He wondered why there were so many Marvel superhero figurines in his .99 cent stores, but no movies or video game systems. So, he kept buying shares of Marvel, which also went bankrupt thanks to the junk bonds their parent company invested in. He did the same thing, bought controlling interest in Marvel for pennies on the dollar, re-hired Stan Lee, and found investors for the Spiderman movie. So really, Mavel Entertainment is just making up for all the money they didn't make since I was buying Ironman/Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Spiderman, Daredevil, The X-Men & The Avengers comics in the '60s. 40 years to the big screen. I kind of forgive Marvel.
