Basic Rules
Entered vehicles MUST be a Sport Compact Cars on the NHRA Approved body list with a 4 or 6 cylinder piston engine. Rotary engines permitted but must have engine diaper and undertray designed to contain oil spills.
Anyone found breaking any of these rules will be banned from running in the Sport Compact
Challenge for a period of no less than one (1) year.
Safety:
Participating in the Sport Compact Challenge drag races, or any
sanctioned drag race is a PRIVILEGE - not a right. To earn and maintain the
privilege of racing each driver will be required to comply with ALL safety
rules. Period.
A helmet must be worn by all competitors regardless of ET! If you do not own
one, you can rent one at the track. All drivers must, at a minimum, wear long
pants and a shirt with sleeves when on the track. Closed toed shoes are required
for drivers - NO SANDALS OR FLIP FLOPS!
Absolutely NO consumption of alcoholic beverages by drivers unless they have
been eliminated from the competition AND are NOT participating in the Test and Tune!
Moroso has the right to impose ANY rule for the safety of participants. Please
also note that it is NOT the Sport Compact Challenge who determines what
safety equipment and procedures to follow while at the track - it is the host
track who makes these determinations. Please take the time to log on to the
Moroso website at
www.morosomotorsportspark.com and familiarize yourself with THEIR safety
requirements.
Points:
All participants are eligible for points when they race. No additional fee for
points is required. Points will be assigned in the following manner:
10 points for starting the event
10 points for each round won
2 points for winning the event
1 point for runner-up in the event
Classes
Indexed Heads-up
An alternative to standard ET bracket racing. This class will have
a handicapped start, and the no-breakout format equalizes
competition among the cars while preserving the “first one to
the finish line wins” concept. Here’s how it works:
- The class features a qualified field. Cars are qualified
based on e.t., from quickest to slowest. Vehicles must run 12.99
or quicker to be eligible for competition. (Non-qualifiers may move
to E.T. Bracket eliminations.)
- In the first round of eliminations, each pair of cars will
utilize a handicapped start; the handicap is based on each
competitor’s quickest qualifying time. This is similar to a “dial-in”
for bracket racing, except the dial-in is automatically determined
by qualifying time.
- There is no breakout at the finish line as in bracket racing. The
first car to cross the finish line wins the round.
- The dial-in is always based on the quickest run of the day. For
example, if the quickest qualifying time is 9.50, the first-round
dial-in is 9.50; if that racer wins the first round with a 9.45, the
second-round dial-in will be lowered to 9.45.
- First-round eliminations are based on a standard Sportsman ladder,
where the No. 1 qualifier competes against No. 9, No. 2 against
No. 10, and so on.
- To avoid excessive sandbagging, any racer who runs .5-second
quicker than his or her quickest qualifying time will be
disqualified.
ET Brackets
The E.T. Bracket category is a no-electronics class. Delay
devices, throttle stops, air shifters, transbrakes, etc. or any device
that transmits real-time, on-track data to the driver or any remote
location are prohibited. 2-Steps and data-loggers are permitted.
Prizes
Event winner and runner up will each be awarded a tropy. Awards will also
be given for highest MPH of the day, and quickest ET of the day. The Sport
Compact Challenge is also exploring avenues to offer other prizes and/or
possibly a cash purse, however these ideas have not yet been finalized.
