Sprague Public Library's Blurbs |
About me:
Staff--Barbaranne Warner, Miriam Drew, Kristin Elliott, and Kat Waterman
The Sprague Public Library is located on the first floor of an old grist mill. originally built in the 1860's, the building was bought by the Town of Sprague in 1965. It was 1969 before Chase Gouin Wodehouse, (Representative in the State Legislature and local resident) spearheaded the effort to renovate the Grist Mill into a Library and Community Center intended to be the heart of the community. The Library opened in 1971. For a long time, a series of dedicated local residents ran the library. Herb Savage and his wife were co-directors for many years. Herb is still a loyal patron, and has adopted Library Assistant Miriam Drew as a Granddaughter. He has even been giving her lessons on how to drive a Model-T!
For after the Savages retired, Anne Marie Davis and Richard DeHont served the residents of the 3 Villages faithfully. Ann is still in town, enjoying spending time with her grandchildren, and Richard now maintains the library and has been volunteering his time attempting to upgrade the existing ILS from Athena to KOHA. For most of the past decade the SPl has been run by several hardworking Librarians each with their own strength and weaknesses.
Each passing year, more and more patrons come into the library searching for a wide variety of materials. Our book collection grows, as well as our VHS and DVD Collections. We owe a huge debt to our loyal patrons
who continue to donate materials that we would otherwise not be able to afford.
In addition to new materials, we keep working to provide a mix of programs - from Story Times for children to Sexual education for teens to Book Discussions for adult patrons.

Who I'd like to meet:
Sprague Public library is always open to anyone who wishes to come and see what we have. There are groups and discussions set up every week for more opportunities to meet new faces! Especially opinionated readers, enthusiastic movie reviewers, writers of blogs, children's books and novels -
