an interactive outdoor light installation by artists’ collective CNN in the magical setting of Balloch Wood near Creetown. ‘Super Nature’ reinterprets the 70’s American urban disco experience a la Saturday Night Fever. During an unforgettable guided night time 1.5 mile walk in the pulsing heart of the forest, visitors will be encouraged to brush up their sharpest dance moves and become part of the artwork. So join us in your funkiest attire and your most sensible footwear on Friday 23 or Saturday 24 May, 8pm – midnight, meeting at Adamson Square, Creetown, where transport will take and return you to the site. Spring Fling is South West Scotland's art and craft open studio event. It takes place 24 - 26 May this year.

Dumfries and Galloway has a wealth of talented artists and makers working in some of the most beautiful spots in the country. For three days only during the last weekend in May 73 studios are open to the public featuring the work of 87 contemporary artists and makers; the best of the area’s talent. This event offers the opportunity for you to meet with the creators in their workspaces giving a unique chance for you to find out more about their work - what they do, how they do it and where they do it. We are proud of our region and its creative community and Spring Fling offers a special opportunity to indulge in the best of what the region has to offer – to explore the countryside, watch artists at work, have a go yourself and purchase exclusive art and craft work direct from the artist.

There is a FREE full colour brochure which provides further information on all participants, including contact details, and a centre page map showing the location of all studios. To make the most of your visit to Dumfries & Galloway and ensure you are refreshed to continue your studio visits each artist has recommended sites of cultural interest, areas of scenic beauty and suggested venues to stop at for a bite to eat or light refreshments. Spring Fling Taster Exhibitions

CATSTRAND, New Galloway, 1 - 21 May
Spring Fling is pleased to announce the opening of a taster exhibition of art and craft works at The CatStrand, New Galloway to showcase the region’s annual art and craft open studio event. The wonderful spaces for the display of locally produced art and craft work at The CatStrand provide a great location for the Spring Fling taster exhibition which provides visitors with a taste of what they can expect to enjoy during the main weekend event, 24 – 26 May 2008.
Amanda Simmons, Spring Fling participant and voluntary co-ordinator of the taster exhibition comments, “This is a great opportunity for local artists and makers to show their work to a new audience. The CatStrand is such a beautiful, light-filled venue, perfect for the vibrant display of work on show. It will be another great chance for everyone to plan their routes for Spring Fling.”
Spring Fling is delighted to be working with Glenkens Community & Arts Trust (GCAT) at The CatStrand for the first time on the art and craft open studio event and certainly hope to continue to do so in the future. Cathy Agnew, GCAT Chairman, says “we’re proud to be hosting the work of so many prestigious artists and makers from within Dumfries and Galloway in our first year. Geographically, we’re located right in the middle of the region and so are extremely well-placed for every visitor regardless of which direction they’re coming from.”
Running from 1 - 21 May visitors to CatStrand will have the opportunity to enjoy works by 18 Spring Fling participants including painting, prints, ceramics, jewellery and textiles.

RYAN CENTRE, Stranraer, 1 - 22 May
The Green Room at the Ryan Centre provides a space to display locally produced art and craft work, and the Spring Fling taster exhibition provides visitors with a taste of what they can expect to enjoy during the event, which takes place from 24 – 26 May 2008.
Spring Fling is pleased to be working with the Ryan Centre once again to highlight the art and craft open studio event and hope to continue to do so in the future. Kay Ribbens, Spring Fling participant and voluntary co-ordinator of the taster exhibition comments, “We are delighted to have the Green Room at the Ryan Centre to exhibit examples of our work. Spring Fling weekend is a marvellous opportunity for artists and makers in the region to meet and talk to so many people interested in their work. We look forward to welcoming visitors to our studios.”
Running from 1 - 22 May visitors to the Green Room at the Ryan Centre will have the opportunity to enjoy works by nine Spring Fling participants working in a range of disciplines including painting, photography, ceramics and textiles.
