SIX SONGS HEARD HERE – COUNTRY (MUSIC) BRUCE COVERS

I've always thought that Bruce had a great country music album in him. I doubt he'll ever record/release one. Many of Springsteen’s songs make for great country music covers. Some of the biggest names in country music, past & present, have covered a Springsteen song; Johnny Cash (four covers), Kenny Chesney (two covers), Emmylou (six covers), Travis Tritt, Trisha Yearwood. Faith Hill, etc. I’m not a fan of country music but some of the Springsteen country covers aren’t too bad. Here are six of those, all by lesser known country artists:

- ALI GREY - “Drive All Night”
Found on Ali’s “Let You In” 2005 CD (Starlilly Records)

- KEVIN MONTGOMERY - ”I Wish I Were Blind”
Found on Kevin’s “Another Long Story” 2000 CD (Road Trip Records). “Another Long Story” was re-issued in 2003 on Syren Records. Kevin also released three different live versions of “I Wish I Were Blind”.

- TWO TONS OF STEEL - ”Red Headed Woman” (live)
Found on the Two Ton’s “Tuesday Live From Gruene Hall” 2002 CD (Big Bellied Records). A different live version of “Red Headed Woman” appears on the band’s “Two Ton Tuesday Live” 2006 live DVD/CD release (Palo Duro Records). I like the earlier live version better.

- LORIANNA MATERA - “You’re Missing”
Released on Lorianna’s ”Nobody’s Angel” 2006 CD (Earwave Records)

- TROY OLSEN - ”I’m On Fire”
Found on Troy’s self-titled 2004 CD (Old Pueblo Sounds)

- JAMES OTTO - ”Back In Your Arms”
Released on James’ self-titled 2002 promo CD (Mercury Records). Two years after this promo CD was released, the stock copy CD, titled “Days Of Our Lives”, hit the store shelves. The length of time between most promo & stock copy releases is usually just a few months, so a two year gap is very unusual. In this time, they decided to replace three of the songs from the promo, including “Back In Your Arms”, with three different songs. So, this cover of “Back in Your Arms” can only be found on the promo CD.
