THE SPRINKLE GENIES - The Class Is On Fire (www.myspace.com/sprinklegenies)
This tunefully lulling and utterly charming folk/rock/country/reggae album harkens back to those enjoyably groovy folk-rock bands that were very popular in the late 60's and early 70's. I mean this as a good thing. There's a genuine kind of retro funky appeal to the nasal laid-back vocals, the gently harmonic arrangements, catchy, but kicked-back melodies, and sweetly thoughtful sensibility evident in the concise songwriting that's impossible to either dislike or resist. Moreover, there's a stark, fragile, soothing and reassuring quality to the neatly chugging, always engaging and occasionally more rockin' music that's a sheer joy to hear. A total treat. - Joe W.
