Influences
yeah this is where it starts to get murky...
influences come from across the board due to the band age gap.
Funk and blues dominate the sound, but influences like The Mothers of Invention poke out here and there and there is a heavy presence of Grateful Dead. Some of our covers include: James Brown, Iggy Pop, Dylan, Ween, Dead, Velvet Underground We have only one member who is adamant about not covering G.W.A.R. don't worry folks were still working on him.
Sounds Like
If a rock falls in the forest, and no one is there to hear it, does it sound like ANYTHING you have ever heard before?
(On a less poetic/philosphical level, our "sound" has been compared to the Dead Kennedys.)
Spudsus Conglomerisus:
The Spuds were, in the 70's, roadies for a Union County NJ area band called the Flying Dogs of Jupiter. Eventually they got enough free time to write music. Over the years many have come to aid in the formation of many Spud musicality's. Some Spud songs are so rancid that they have driven men mad; and we haven't seen Lazlo since his "I'm not Lazlo any more" party... The Spuds spent many years in hiding, in basements and garages, only to emerge stronger, and weirder than ever... Lamont B Dumont and Julio Frijoles struggled through the dry years, sculpting and crafting the chosen Spud, Altamont B Dumont. (History is written by the victor, or the webmaster in this case.) Upon his coming of age, Altamont B Dumont, brang new life and youthful energy into the band that charged the spirits of his aging father and The Big One. After playing in cities like Easton, and Easton, and a couple shows in Easton... The band found a strength and began to play more. With the introduction of yet another Spud, Monday Night Jack, the band finally found a sound that was so cutting edge, they STILL had to play in coffee shops, mostly in Easton... Then a door opened in a small college town near Rowan University, that further expanded the Spud fan base.... We have decided, Its time to take the next logical step... MySpace. (Hey, everyone else is doing it.)
After a while, Altamont determined that his immediate future is in Naples, FL. He already had a pork-pie hat, so he might as well move to Naples.
Lamont & TBO kept at it just like during the basement decade. Jack would show up and mope every now and then. An assortment of drummers wandered in and out occasionally. Then The Spuds put an ad on Craigslist and found Dave, who was quite willing to give the Spuds a try and having tried, tried again and again. Like most things you get from Craigslist, Dave is used, but he's in surprisingly good condition.
Any truth to the rumor that a couple of leftover Spuds are going to show up at Dom's open mic at the Bus Stop in Pitman, NJ and see if they can make themselves into Hashbrowns? It seems reliable, yet Fox News has no word of it, so how could it be true, much less fair & balanced?
There's a rumor going around that a new drummer may have auditioned the Spuds. (No, I did not leave out the word "for" in the above sentence.) Further, there are unconfirmed reports that he may even show up for more next week.
Any truth to this? Enquiring minds want to know.
is anyone else planning or wanting to participate in nonviolent civil disobedience in Washington DC on Sept. 26-27???
IF SO... pls contact me! i want to plan a carpool or even meet up with some new faces.
1: Take I-78 W toward EASTON PA. (I'm making the leap of faith that everyone can find 78)
2: Merge onto US-22 W via EXIT 3 toward PA-33 / PHILLIPSBURG / RT-122 / ALPHA (Crossing into PENNSYLVANIA on the $1 toll bridge). 4.9 miles
3: Take the exit toward EASTON. <0.1 miles (This is quick - as soon as you cross the bridge, take the first exit.)
4: Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto SNYDER ST. 0.1 miles (This is Mapquest's obtuse way of telling you that if you go straight at the end of the exit ramp, you'll go diagonally across Snyder St and crash into a building on the other side, but you could probably figure that out on your own.)
5: Turn LEFT onto N 3RD ST. 0.1 miles (This will be the 1st left - it will take you back under US 22)
6: End at 20 N 3rd St. Easton, PA - Quadrant Book Mart & Coffee Shop
If you get to Square, you've gone too far. Of course if going too far is what the Spuds are all about)
I know what you guys need...what you guys need is a WebMaster who can punctuate...and spelling and grammar wouldn't hurt either. My brother Ed may be available for the job. You should check him out.
So...I am assuming that this web portal into another dimension is moderated by Altamont...So I feel free to say that someone's alter ego is a bit MySpace obsessed. Thanks.
