Spunk, in Swedish:
The word "spunk" is taken from the books about Pippi Longstocking, written by the Swedish children's book author Astrid Lindgren. The story goes like this. Pippi has just invented a new word, "spunk", but doesn't know what it means just yet. So to find out she goes out into the small town where she lives and asks the shopkeepers if they have a spunk. So a spunk can be anything, anything we like.
Spunk, in American and English:
"spunk, n. informal. courage or spirit - spunky, adj." (Collins Dictionary)
Spunk, in Australian:
"Spunk" means, in Australian english, "an attractive person", acording to the Macquarie Dictionary. It is non-gender specific.
So, a spunk is nondescript, energetic, courageous and attractive. 'Spunk' is also an English colloquialism referring to human semen, but any connection between this and Spunk, the artist, is purely coincidental
The excerpt above is taken almost in its entirety from spunk.org. Spunk is a sampling artist, so why shouldn't the sampling technique be used in a Spunk biography as well?
Spunk, the artist, originates from the dark woods in the north of Sweden, but is now located in a small cabin in the archipelago in the outskirts of Stockholm. Besides doing some daytime work in the city, Spunk likes to chop wood, carry stones and put together psychedelic beats from the cheapest vinyls that can be found in the back of the Salvation Army's second hand stores. One of Spunk's many words of wisdom are subsequently: Use bad records to make good music.
