Sputnik is a New York City/Hoboken/Cape Cod-based indie pop band led by singer/songwriter Genie Morrow formerly of Longwave and the infamous Nigel Rawles on the traps.
The group combines dreamy vocals, ambient guitar effects, trumpet, keyboards, and accordion to create a joyful, summery blend of straight ahead pop, with dreamy and irresistible melodies.
In addition to recording several CDs that have garnered radio airplay across the nation, Sputnik has toured up and down the East Coast, sharing stages with pop and rock giants Spoon, Peter Noone, Howie Day, and The Magic Numbers.
Sputnik recently released an all-new album entitled "Shine On",
Produced by Rains and Grammy Award winning Producer, Carl Glanville (U2, Jason Mraz, Patti Smith, Joan Jett)
The new CD mixes meticulously-crafted, stick-in-the-head
original compositions with thoroughly re-worked versions of classics from The Kinks, The Zombies, Brian Wilson, and The Velvet Underground. The disc features guest appearances from Santana/Miles Davis bassist Benny Rietveld, Ben Kweller guitarist Jason Roberts and Chris Butler of The Waitresses.
All of this combined with Rains’ guitars and Rawles' Keith Moonesque presence, creates quite and exciting blend of sounds and spirit!
Ballads of survival are the themes of Genie Morrow’s songs. Her ethereal yet gritty voice take the listener to wondrous places like the fields of Salinas, CA, outerspace and the powerlines on Cape Cod…

Hi Sputnik, The name of your band draws attention to us, Newtonians: some 25 years ago the Newtones wrote the song 'Sputnik Blues', about the space-race, started by the Russians some 25 years before that date. So not only a satelite flies, time does too...
Our heads should have been turned, however, not because of your bandname, but because of the music you make. You sure know how to write a song!! Thanks for the add!
