“Spyda” was born Paul Anthony Thompson II, on November 8th 1989, in Palm Beach County, FL. He was raised in a rather diverse household with his Canadian mother and Jamaican father. The name “Spyda,” was given to him by his friends because they claimed his long, flowing, ring-locked hair resembled the legs of a spider.
Through spending quality time with his father, popular reggae singer, "Pat Satchmo," he began to acquire the ability to communicate in the Jamaican dialect of, “Patois." It seemed like a predisposition to Spyda’s family and friends for him to pursue a career in music having both a Father and Step-Father who were both former members of the Legendary Reggae band, "The Wild Bunch."
A young, hopeful Spyda picked up a pen and paper and began to write and record his own original lyrics at the age of 12. Over the years he continued to hone his skills in hopes to someday master his craft.
2008 was undoubtedly a pivotal point in Spyda’s career. This young Reggae/Dancehall Sensation gained an extensive amount of studio experience working on his highly anticipated debut mixtape, “All Debts Paid,” produced by his Manager/Producer Michael Santiago of Trak Magic and Fire Star Entertainment. In late August, the second single from his CD, “I’m A Superstar,” premiered on one of South Florida’s most prestigious major radio stations, “X102.3,” and remained in regular rotation for 10 weeks straight!
As his popularity continued to flourish on Florida’s Music scene, his signature Reggae/Hip-Hop sound has made him one of the most sought after artists of his genre in Florida. As a result, Spyda has collaborated with over 20 local artists in 2008 alone, creating an even higher demand for his innovative musical skill.
Local fans have dubbed Spyda, “Palm Beach’s Dancehall King,” with his electrifying performances, energetic stage presence, and clever wordplay. He has performed at various hot spots in South Florida including: The Marlin Hotel, IRSCHS, PBCC, The Draft House, Delray Café, & the Oakland Park Fairgrounds to name a few. His ability to engage massive crowds in his routines has made Spyda a highly pursued artist on Florida’s club circuit.
With the recent release of his mixtape, and several new projects underway, Manager/Producer Michael Santiago is ready to help Spyda transcend his career to the next level.
