Ex Mouse Eat Mouse founder Johnny White formed Spy Movie in 2008. Having completed touring and promoting Mouse Eat Mouse’s critically acclaimed debut album Mair Licht, he decided to leave and return to his indie pop roots.
Kat King and David Mitchell, who’ve played with various bands in Glasgow, joined and began writing furiously.
Described as “indie-pop brilliance…” by ThereGoesTheFear.com, their debut EP is three bittersweet slices of jangling Glasgow indie folk recalling bands such as Camera Obscura, Blondie and The Smiths.
Kat King (pictured) provides heart-stopping plangent vocals, while David Mitchell layers a soft sea of shimmering acoustic and electric guitars beneath. Johnny White plays bass and sings harmonies. Drums on this release were provided by Toronto-based audio engineer Michael.
Spy Movie have since recruited Joe on guitar and Liam drums.
Spy Movie are playing gigs in Glasgow and throughout Scotland in 2009.
Hey Johnny - many thanks for buying our wee album - and for your very kind comments! Go for your life on the chord sequences - don't forget to stick a few diminished chords in now and again! Everyone's a sucker for a diminished chord! Cheers David
Thanks for the add guys! Quality tunes you got on here! I think that we could interchange our influences seamlessly! It's when I hear music like this that I miss Glasgow. Cheers David
