SPYZ IS AN INTERESTING MIX OF MUSICIANS WHICH ADDS TO THEIR MUSIC. DAN DULCO IS A CLASSICALLY TRAINED PIANIST. DAVE WATSON STUDIED JAZZ DRUMMING A BERKELY COLLEGE OF MUSIC IN BOSTON. JOHN PENTLAND HAS A HARD ROCK EDGE WHO WORSHIPS LED ZEPPLIN AMONG OTHER HARD ROCK BANDS. FINALLY, THERE'S JON THE POP/ROCKER AND SELF PROFESSED BEATLEMANIAC. WITH THAT MIX OF MUSICIANS YOU GET SOFT COLORED BALLADS, HARD EDGED ROCK TUNES, MELODIC POP TUNES AND MATERIAL THAT BORDERS ON PROGRESSIVE ROCK. EVERYONE BRINGS THEIR UNIQUE STYLE TO A VARIETY OF MUSIC GENRES.

SPYZ HAS NEVER BEEN PAINTED INTO A CORNER. THEY WERE DUBBED AN "ALTERNATIVE" BAND BACK IN 1984 WHEN NO ONE COULD PUT THEM INTO ANY OTHER STANDING CATEGORY. COMMENTS ON THEIR STYLE AND SUND RUN THE GAMBIT FROM REM TO THE BEATLES TO ERIC CLAPTON TO CROWED HOUSE/SPLIT ENDZ TO THE SMITHEREENS WITH A LITTLE JELLYFISH ON THE SIDE.
SPYZ was formed in 1984 and was part of the "Alternative" music scene in Los Ageles through the rest of the 80's. Like other bands of that generation, their sound didn't fit in a box which gained the interest of from people working with TOTO. A management deal with John Dembo and Stan Blye was struck and the band was shopped. They brought Steve Pocaro into the project to produce the first record. Deals at Capitol Records and Polydor/Polygram were on the table. The management team fell apart and the band was back to square one and decided to call it quits in 1990 to pursue other careers.
The songs featured on this site are from sessions recorded at The Complex in Hollywood with Duane Secuora engineering and Mike Sabatini co-producing. These were the basic tracks that would have shown up on the first album. The original tracks were bumped to digital and re-mixed in 2006.
The band members, Dan Dulco, Jon Henderson, John Pentland and Dave Watson always stayed in touch and jammed from time to time in the 90's and beyond. A full reunion took place in 1994 and a record was recorded. It's in the process of being remixed and will be offered soon to the general public along with Then Complex Sessions CD.
Jon Henderson, who handles guitars and vocals was diagnosed with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer in July 1999. In 2002 Jon began working on a new project called "Big C" and called his old bandmates to collaborate and perform on the CD and appear in a DVD about living with cancer.

Hi there SPYZ first of all we'd like to say thanks for being our myspace pal. We wanted to make sure you knew the reason incase we suddenly vanish off of your friends list. The movement we've started for indie artists has grown significantly and consumes all of our time these days. We seldom sign into our myspace account and this is making several people believe that we are ignoring them. We are not ignoring anyone, we wanted everyone to know that.
