In the Summer of 2004, Square were born. There were four founder members, but currently only three of them are still in the line-up: Bruno Moura (Spool) – vocals, Jose Lemos (Zeka) – Bass and Leandro Pacheco (Tekla) – drums.
In the beginning of 2005 the band saw its first line-up modification, with the departure of their first guitar player and co-founder member.
His place was filled in by Pedro Lemos (Mano). By that time, the band had a concert already scheduled to May, in the french island of Corsega.
It was an irrefusible concert, so the band quickly started working on new songs to cover at least one hour onstage.
At this time, a second guitarrist was brought in: Paulo Rodrigues (Xuxa).
On May 12th 2005, Square flyed over to France with 7 originals and a medley (made out of 4 different covers), in order to play their first gig.
This took place on May 13th 2005.
Once the band was back in Portugal, 5 concerts were played in only 2 months, assisted by João Guimarães (Xtrondo) as a sound tecnician/roadie, and later as the band's percurssionist, in the concert that took place on July 23rd.
At that point the band decided to take a break from the live performances to focus on the recording of some of their songs.
In September, Square went back to rehealsals. The goal was to improve their music before getting in studio. This was a long and hard process, which involved restructuring 5 of the band's originals.
Both the musical and band arrangements needed to enter the studio were only completed in the beginning of 2006.
Due to the lack of financial resources and the ever-growing enthusiasm shown by Xtrondo to put this music in a record, the band recorded this first work in his own home-made studio.
This took place in March 2006, but the band had only one week to finish the recording of 5 songs. And so it happened!
The mastering of the recorded material is still in process, and should be finished soon.
During this whole period, other line-up modifications ocurred with the departure of Xuxa and Xtrondo, due to musical differences concerning the band's future.
By this time Square's hunger for live performances strikes again, and an year after their first live gig, the band performs in Ronfe - Guimarães on May 13th 2006.
