MySpace a place for friends

An accomplished jazz saxophonist and composer, Hamilton had spent a year learning guitar, and was looking for an outlet for his rock writing. After he teamed up with Nervo, the two spent a year and a half leading the band, then called "Tape," as a four-piece.

In late 2005, they added Brian Fox and Peter Thomas to the bass and drum chairs, respectively, and started writing for a fifth member, musical jack-of-all-trades Dan “Llama” Apczynski, who joined the group performing backing vocals, keyboards, and guitar.

In 2006, with a solidified lineup and a growing repertoire, the group changed their name to “Squaretape” and headed into the studio to record a self-titled EP.

Almost immediately after the release of the disc in 2007, the band beat out hundreds of other groups to win the San Francisco Bay to Breakers' Battle of the Bands, winning the opening slot at Footstock, the post-race festival, and performing for tens of thousands of people.

As reviews of the EP roll in, Squaretape has returned to the studio to begin work on a full-length album, due out in early 2008, and they continue to perform regularly around the San Francisco Bay Area.
